Double Fine Presents Welcomes KIDS to the Family
Today, Double Fine Productions’ publishing branch, Double Fine Presents, announced their partnership with Playables to publish the upcoming interactive animation, KIDS. Nominated for a Nuovo Award at the 2018 Independent Games Festival Awards earlier this year, the experience has steadily picked up steam and generated excitement among gamers and artists alike.
“We couldn’t be happier to have KIDS as a part of our Double Fine Presents family” said Greg Rice, Vice President of Business. “We’re huge fans of Playables’ work and in absolute awe of the thoughtfulness they’ve brought to KIDS, resulting in one of the most artistic statements we’ve seen in games in a long while.”
KIDS is an experimental project about the psychology of the group, allowing players to move with and against crowds until everyone is gone. The final products are an interactive animation, a short film and an exhibition. The game is also the second collaboration of director and animator Michael Frei and game designer Mario von Rickenbach after their award-winning animated short film and short game Plug & Play. The game is set to release this year on iOS, Android and Steam (PC/Mac).
