Today, Unknown Worlds revealed that Subnautica 2, the official follow-up to the Subnautica series, is available in Early Access. Just a few days after pre-purchases began this week, Subnautica 2 topped one million copies sold ahead of its Early Access launch and peaked at number one on Steam’s global top sellers lists in several different regions.
Fernando Melo, Executive Producer of Subnautica 2 stated, “The Early Access launch of Subnautica 2 marks the beginning of an adventure to chart the unknown deep alongside players worldwide. “Player feedback is the compass guiding our direction, and we will continue building the experience together with the community throughout Early Access.”

The official follow-up to the genre-defining Subnautica series, which has sold more than 18.5 million copies worldwide, is Subnautica 2, created by Unknown Worlds, a company founded by Charlie Cleveland and Max McGuire. The sequel, which takes place on a new alien planet within the Subnautica universe, features improved graphics thanks to Unreal Engine 5, new ecosystems, and, for the first time in the series, optional co-op for up to four players, enabling them to live and explore together.
Additionally, Subnautica 2’s pre-launch video releases generated a lot of enthusiasm. The gameplay trailer, which was launched on May 9, has already had over 5 million views, while the game’s cinematic trailer, which was released on April 30, has amassed over 10 million total views.
Subnautica 2 is available now on Steam, Xbox (Series X|S consoles and PC), and the Epic Games Store.
