gamescom Award 2018: And the Winners are...!

Ori and the Will of the Wisps from Microsoft wins in two categories

• Three award-winning titles come from Activision Blizzard

• Koch Media, Microsoft, and Nintendo each had two gamescom award winners

The winners of one of the most coveted prizes of the computer and video games industry have been selected. The presentation of the gamescom awards in eleven genres and five platform categories took place immediately following the opening ceremony. Wildcard holders were there live on location for the first time and many other gamescom fans were watching the live stream on gamescom.de. More than 100 submissions were received at the award office, which was again managed by the Stiftung Digitale Spielekultur (Digital Game Culture Foundation) this year.

The winners of the gamescom awards 2018 have been selected: Platformer Ori and the Will of the Wisps from Microsoft won in two categories. In addition to the category of Best Console Game Microsoft Xbox One, the challenging puzzle platformer also won for the game genre category of Best Puzzle/Skill Game. With Forza Horizon 4 as Best Racing Game, Microsoft was the winner in three categories – just as many as Activision Blizzard for its Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice, which took the category of Best Action Game. Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 received the award for Best Social/Online Game and Destiny 2: Forsaken for Best Add-on/DLC. Koch Media (Best Casual Game Team Sonic Racing and Best Strategy Game Total War: Three Kingdoms) and Nintendo (Best Family Game Super Mario Party and Best Console Game Nintendo Switch Super Smash Bros. Ultimate) each received two awards.

All of the winning titles in the genre and platform categories are eligible for the top award of Best of Gamescom given by the jury. The categories Best Hardware, Best Multiplayer Game and Best Virtual Reality Game will be evaluated by the international jury of experts during gamescom. They will then be presented on gamescom Saturday at 3 pm on the Red Bull Stage powered by gamescom together with other jury categories such as Best Booth, Best of CAMPUS and the gamescom Indie award as well as various fan categories including gamescom’s “Most Wanted” Consumer Award and Best Streamer/Let’s Player.
