Ever wished you could step into the shoes of a survivor in “A Quiet Place” and experience the thrill of evading those terrifying sound-sensitive creatures? Well, “A Quiet Place: The Road Ahead” gives you that chance, developed by Stormind Games and published by Saber Interactive.
Players play Alex, a young woman navigating a world where silence is the key to survival. Just like the movies, even the slightest rustle of leaves or a misplaced footstep can attract deadly attention.
This game is all about stealth. Imagine creeping through abandoned houses, your heart pounding as you inch past shattered windows and creaking floorboards. You’ll have a special device, a bit like a meter, that shows you how much noise you’re making. It’s a constant reminder to move slowly and carefully, making each successful step a victory. The game designers have done a fantastic job of recreating the tension and suspense of the films, making you feel like you’re constantly on edge, just like the characters on screen.
The environments are incredibly detailed and play a huge role in the gameplay. You’ll find yourself in cluttered rooms, overgrown backyards, and dusty barns, each filled with potential noise traps. A carelessly kicked can, a dangling chain, or even a misplaced book can be your downfall. This forces you to be hyper-aware of your surroundings, scanning every inch of the environment before taking a step. It’s a unique and immersive experience that truly puts your stealth skills to the test.
While the game excels at creating a nerve-wracking atmosphere, it sometimes feels like the developers are a bit too eager to set you up for failure. You’ll encounter an abundance of conveniently placed objects just waiting to be knocked over, which can be a little frustrating at times. Thankfully, the game frequently saves your progress, preventing you from losing too much progress when those inevitable noisy mishaps occur.
The story, while decent, doesn’t quite reach the emotional depths of the movies. It follows a fairly predictable path, and the characters, though likable, don’t quite grab you in the same way as those on the big screen. Also the game starts feeling a bit repetitive overtime, doing the similar pattern of stealth and survivability.
However, the game does a great job of fleshing out the world through environmental storytelling. You’ll discover notes, drawings, and other remnants of lives lived before the creatures arrived, painting a picture of the devastating impact they’ve had on humanity.
“A Quiet Place: The Road Ahead” is a great choice for fans of the movies and anyone who enjoys a good scare. It’s not without its minor flaws, but the intense atmosphere, clever level design, and faithful adaptation of the source material make it a worthwhile experience. I would give this game 7/10.
A Quiet Place: The Road Ahead is available for PC via Steam, PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S. For morel information, visit the official website, and follow on X-Twitter, Facebook, and YouTube.
