Greetings Gamers, Greg here from Gaming Cypher to Strike Hard on a Cobra Kai 2: Dojos Rising review for the PS5. Like I am sure many of you are, I, too, am a fan of the Netflix show. So that made this game of interest to me at the very least. I missed the first one, but when given the chance to check out the new installation of the Cobra Kai franchise, I rose to the challenge.
For starters, Cobra Kai 2: Dojos Rising is a basic brawler and I don’t think it ever intended to be the game of the year. So, I don’t want to go too hard on it here. Many much larger franchises have had games tied to their releases and been huge disappointments. So, it’s not a new concept to pump out a game to cash in on the popularity. I enjoy the show so I’m in the key demographic here. I should really like this game, but it has some issues. The action is fun but buggy and the locations include elements of the show but are hardly picture perfect. Though it is all more ambitious than the first installment, which might be part of the downfall taking on too much for this game. I think, with more time, this could have become more polished. It is possible through updates they could fix the camera and work out the graphics bugs a little better.
Here are the key features of the game. They have multiple fighting modes such as story mode where you can fight your way through the All Valley Tournament in a narrative story or Cobra Classic where players relive epic moments from the show. There are 28 playable characters mostly notable characters from the show and some even include the voice talent from the show, which is fun. Players can choose which dojo they want to rise with but it doesn’t change the story too substantially.
Cobra Kai 2: Dojos Rising has some fun button mashing action if thats what you are looking for but does have some glitchy graphics and the camera is very problematic. The old style graphics are part of the charm though it was never intended to look like the news Naughty Dog game or anything like that. But I do think this game should be coming in close to the $20 price range so if you want to pick it up try to get it on sale. For the next installment of this game franchise, maybe they can partner with Sloclap, the makers of Sifu, which is a fantastic martial arts game. With some reskinning that could make for an extremely high quality Cobra Kai Game.
All that said, this game is still fun if you are willing to work around the bugs but probably should have been more polished. For more on games check out Gaming Cypher for all your gaming news and reviews.
