Based off the famous Netflix series, Cobra Kai, Cobra Kai: Card Fighter, published by Boss Team Games (Evil Dead: The Game) and developed by Gamaga (Banana Kong), is a collectible card game and partial turn-based fighting game. This is a free to play game and there are items available for in-app purchase if you would like to enhance gameplay and speed up your progress. You are able to choose your own path and dojo in this mobile game filled with turn-based strategy and fast-paced fighting card game. The story revolves around the events of the original Karate Kid, Johnny Lawrence and Daniel LaRusso rekindle their All-Valley rivalry. Within this mobile game, you are given the chance to re-open the Cobra Kai and Miyagi-Do dojos, train your students up, and build a team to take on other players in the community.
There are various things offered within Cobra Kai: Card Fighter, such as the ability to customize your decks. There are different move types, card colors, and power levels that you’re able to use to discover synergies and fine-tune your fighting strategy. Alongside this you can earn XP to level up your characters so they can earn their Black Belts.
The gameplay is like the classic “Rock, Paper, Scissors” game. Cobra Kai: Card Fighter just swapped those for punches and kicks to fit the theme. For these moves, they are captured in cards within your battle deck. The decks are randomized in terms of what you’ll draw and what your opponent will draw. Within Cobra Kai: Card Fighter though, there are player-specific cards, too, other than attacks. These cards grant unique power-ups as well as combos that allow you to deal extra damage if the cards are dealt correctly.
Outside of fighting, you can earn your sensei’s favor through training, upgrading the dojo, doing missions, and more to earn cash to progress further into the upgrades. This part of the game is not a huge part, so you don’t need to grind for it a lot since a lot of the game is mostly on fighting. It is a nice change of pace if you don’t wish to keep fighting though.
My personal experience was not as enjoyable because I didn’t understand the references or enjoy the game play as well as other fans who know this would. I found the gameplay somewhat bland personally and the extra things you can do outside of fighting not as fun as well. It felt very repetitive and unfulfilling. However, I think Cobra Kai: Card Fighter is for those who are Cobra Kai fans and enjoy mobile-based fighting games. You also get to see your favorite characters from the fandom itself and relive the storyline again. I would recommend those who are interested in Cobra Kai content or mobile card games that have a slight twist.

I really love playing video games! Growing up, my dad introduced me to video games, the first being Street Fighter. I have always been surrounded by them growing up and even now. They really impacted my life allowing me to share this commonality with my friends and new ones. I play a wide array of games, mostly PC, but sometimes PS4 and Nintendo Switch. Some of my favorite games are Final Fantasy VII, League of Legends, Persona 5, and Stardew Valley. As of recent, I've been playing Fall Guys and Among Us as well!
