DELIVER US THE MOON Review for PlayStation 4

DELIVER US THE MOON Review for PlayStation 4

I’ve always been a fan of space. Whether it’s a good Sci-Fi game with flashy rays of light and action, or a movie that loosely strings together big sciency words to help tell a gripping narrative. Whatever the case, if it’s all about space, I’m all about it. Deliver us the Moon, by developer KeokeN Interactive and publisher Wired Productions for me, was a great change of pace from some of the more high-intensity games I’ve been playing as of late. It’s a slow-building fire with a gripping story that kept me going all the way through.

Story

DELIVER US THE MOON Review for PlayStation 4

Deliver us the Moon takes place in the year 2030, where Human life on Earth is on the verge of collapse. Our natural resources have been exhausted and climate change has turned the remainder of our world into vast deserts & endless oceans. In order to combat this, our world leaders came together in a joint effort to colonize the Moon and mine it for sustainable energy.

In 2032, the World Space Agency colonized the Moon and began harvesting this energy, which they transmitted back to Earth using what they called Microwave Power Transmission, and all seemed well. However, for reasons unknown, the Moon went Dark. Nobody knew why, and with extremely limited resources, forming a rescue team seemed infeasible. The WSA shut down the project and abandoned the Moon in 2055. That’s when your story begins. A team of rogue scientists, fueled with desire to save their planet, constructs a space rocket capable of sending one person, you, to the Moon. Now, in 2059, your task is to travel to the abandoned colony, reactivate the M.P.T, and discover what really happened so many years ago.

Gameplay & Mechanics

DELIVER US THE MOON Review for PlayStation 4

Deliver us the Moon functions as most mystery adventures, and by the end of the first chapter, you will have experienced the majority of its mechanics. As a lone astronaut, you will be faced with many puzzles that you are required to solve in order to push the narrative forward. Challenges are mostly simple: Find a locked door? Better scavenge around the area for a sticky note with the keycode on the back. Debris blocking your way? Better find a power conduit to energize the machine that can push all that trash away.

While some tasks become repetitive, and others become tedious, there are some sections in the game that break things up a bit. One of my personal favorites was experiencing Zero Gravity for the first time. Also, you get a quirky little drone companion that follows you around and helps you reach some of those tight-fitting spaces. While I felt as though the mechanics were fair, what makes this game an amazing time is its story and its atmosphere.

Aesthetics & Sound

KeokeN Interactive has created a hauntingly beautiful atmosphere of being isolated in space. It’s a different type of experience from Horror where you’re hoping for the jump to relieve your building angst. Deliver us the Moon is a steady burn where the tension is always there. The environments are lonely, and yet, familiar. These places feel lived-in, as if someone was called to an emergency meeting and hadn’t had time to clean up. From the somber, hopeless, inspirational, and triumphant music, to the empty, degenerative rooms filled with familiarities and personal effects, KeokeN Interactive delivers us a narrative through the environment of Deliver us the Moon. The emotion that follows piecing individual narratives together through holograms and holotapes will inspire any completionist to find every single hidden treat Deliver us the Moon has to offer!

Summary

Deliver us the Moon is a brilliant game with an amazing narrative that will keep you hooked to the very end. KeokeN Interactive truly captures that haunting ambiance of space in just the right way to truly immerse you in this, sometimes hopeless, experience. Though the mechanics get the job done, they may sometimes feel like they’re just slowing down the progress you’re so desperate to make, however, each little victory feels like an amazing accomplishment, and the rewards to follow are indeeringly satisfying. I truly enjoyed my experience with Deliver us the Moon and I hope you do so as well!
