The Walking Dead game is back (by Overkill, Starbreeze, Skybound Entertainment, and 505 Games), and we have had a gameplay demo at E3 2018, which showed us the different game style with less cinematics and more action. We discussed Overkill’s The Walking Dead with the development team and saw the game to be a 4-player co-op game. Overkill software did a great job in re-imagining the game in a different way. The game had 4 players with a different play style for each, including a medic for healing.
Overkill’s The Walking Dead started for us with selecting a player and then going through the initial level, which gave us feel of how the game is going to be. The game has both melee as well as shooting weapons. When we encountered the first walkers, we saw that the game has also implemented the stamina mechanic – the more melee that you do, the stamina will be utilized and needed to be regained. Also Overkill’s The Walking Dead is not to be taken lightly as the resources are scarce. The game is full of traps which can be a help as well but if not noticed, it can create a problem for players.
At each location we had to find certain items to unlock the doorway to the next area. Also Overkill’s The Walking Dead is detailed enough that noise can attract more zombies. There are even stealth kills which makes it easy to take down all the walkers. There are human enemies in the game as well and hordes of zombies can be used to take down humans using noise. There are resurrection mechanisms as well – if a player is down there is a timer in which a player will be automatically resurrected or another player can revive them right away, but if all the players are down then that’s a game over.
We think Overkill’s The Walking Dead is going to be a great addition to Walking Dead universe and will give us a different feel for the game. We are definitely looking forward to more details in the upcoming months.
