Greetings Gamers, Greg here from Gaming Cypher to talk about Endless Dungeon, a new rogue-lite from Amplitude, who also brought us the rest of the Endless games; and Yes, this does reside in the same universe. If you are familiar with something like Dungeon of the Endless, this isn’t just the same game. Amplitude has put love into developing a new game with interesting characters that you can explore the mysteries of this space station with.
In our limited time with this First Run OpenDev version of Endless Dungeon, we got the chance to play as long as we would survive. I made it to the second level, but not without great difficulty and a few unsuccessful runs prior. It’s not just a game you can pick up and hope to walk through without dying enough to build up the wisdom to play through a level successfully. Despite how cool your hero characters are, we had the choice of three, but on release, there are supposed to be eight characters to choose from. Regardless, no one will be able to shoot their way through on their own. Whether you are an invincible robot or a Gatling Gun berzerker, you cannot protect your Crystal Bot on your own.
Setting up for the siege takes understanding where enemies can come from and where you need to end up. Using all your resources early on to set up torrents, shields, and traps seems like a good idea, but resources are limited and it’s really going to be what determines if you will make it to the next level.
Once you set up a little bit of a home base you can venture through the procedurally generated level to find where the door to the next area is as well as hopefully lots of generators that determine how much of each resource is generated upon accessing a new room for the first time.
Finding the way out is really only half the battle though once you know where you are going you need to spend your remaining resources wisely as you plan out the most direct route to move your crystalline VIP because having your Crystal Bot explode means instant game over. Bam then you are back to the beginning to try a new run.
Amplitude did say that there would be some time of leveling that may help in runs the more time you spend playing it. But it’s meant to be more of a lateral leveling so you don’t become too strong for earlier stages. This game is meant to challenge you so strap in space cowboy or cowgirl and blast your way through this space station when it drops. Keep an eye out at Gaming Cypher for what’s to come with Endless Dungeon.
