The first paid expansion to the VR stealth experience since its release in 2019 is the Espire 1: VR Operative Sydney Sneakabouts Mission Pack DLC, which publisher Tripwire Presents and developer Digital Lode today announced will be available for purchase on the Meta Quest Store (Quest, Quest 2, and Quest 3) starting at 10am PT for $4.99 USD. In the upcoming weeks, the DLC will be made available on other VR platforms, such as Steam (Valve Index, HTC Vive, Windows Mixed Reality) and the Meta Rift Store (Rift, Rift-S). The Sydney Sneakabouts Mission Pack transports players to the vibrant and picturesque downtown of Sydney, Australia. There, two novel settings and an array of fresh obstacles await, challenging the abilities of even seasoned agents.
In addition to the DLC, the developer has made a number of AI and gameplay enhancements during the creation of the new content available to all owners as a free update (patch 1.12). Tens of thousands of new players have experienced the acclaimed stealth experience thanks to this title, which is currently one of the first 12 offerings in the initial Meta Quest+ subscription service catalog.
Espire 1 Sydney Sneakabouts Mission Pack DLC Key Features:
- Two Novel Environments in Sydney: Two new habitats that take agents high above and somewhat below the city streets are located in Sydney’s downtown. Explore the Entwine building Zone, a neighboring building site that acts as a front for Copperhead’s own Espire “Control Theater” R&D activities, and Maxim Tower, an abandoned skyscraper project near the city’s well-known Circular Quay port district and home to a sophisticated Copperhead spy network. One of the largest and most varied maps in Espire 1 is the Entwine site, which spans a whole city block and has areas both above and below ground.
- Ten New “Virtual Challenge” Missions: Distributed evenly between the two new mission sites, take on new challenges in Intel, Takedown, Elimination, Person of Interest, Hold-up, and Sneaking. These missions, which include some of the most difficult missions the game has released so far, cater to the playstyles of fans of both stealth-based and “guns blazing” approaches.
On all platforms, the Espire 1 patch 1.12 is currently available and includes:
- Enemy AI Improvements: To make adversaries more consistent and responsive, a variety of behavioral adjustments and enhancements have been performed. In order to provide more consistency, AI guard hearing has been upgraded to detect player movements above or below them, bullet impacts, and unsuppressed shooting. The noise radius of suppressed weapons has also been homogenized, usually leading to a lower noise radius.
- Gameplay Improvements: The Espire Vision ability now costs 8 times less to use, grip alignment issues with the E1416 rifle, Supernova shotgun, and sawn-off shotgun on Quest and Rift platforms have been fixed, there are more interactions for tripmine detonations, and more
- New Localization: Support for Simplified Chinese text is included in this patch
Since its release, Espire 1: VR Operative has established a new benchmark for the stealth genre in virtual reality by offering gameplay features for action and stealth genres that have not previously been explored in the medium. Assuming the character of a “Espire Agent,” players must employ state-of-the-art virtual reality gear to remotely control the Espire model 1 drone while performing challenging and secret tasks.
For $19.99 USD, Espire 1: VR Operative can be purchased for use with all major virtual reality platforms, such as Steam, Meta Quest (Quest, Quest 2, and Quest 3), Oculus Rift, Oculus Rift-S, HTC Vive / Vive Pro, Valve Index, Windows Mixed Reality, and PlayStation VR. Sydney Sneakabouts Mission Pack DLC is now priced at $4.99 USD on Meta Quest platforms, and in the upcoming weeks, it will be made accessible on more platforms.
