I have not personally played any of the Fate games before, but I have heard of them, as well as their passionate fanbase. What I can say from my short time with the demo of Fate/Samurai Remnant is that it is a stylish and fun enough to play game. If you like the tropes typical to JRPG stories, the hack and slash action of games like Dynasty Warriors or Kingdom Hearts, and the good old Samurai/feudal Japan aesthetic, then read on!
The game casts you as Miaymoto Iori, eventual protégé and adopted son to the legendary Miyamoto Musashi (to my knowledge, the Fate games mix in a lot of historical characters and backdrop to the series which is really cool!), who in my short time playing, has become a retainer to a wraith like being acting as your partner, as the demo casts you as debt collectors in the local village of Asakusa. This short mission gives you a taste of how combat works. At first, you will slash your way through petty thugs, but later on, things take a turn for the more paranormal, as you fight fire and lantern demons, all while learning to use your focus and link skills to do some really cool water-based team up or power moves. They are always satisfying to pull off, and always lead to fun animations on the enemies, such as stunning them and making them see stars Looney Tunes style!
The game is a sight to behold. It is gorgeously rendered in cell-shaded visual styles and absolutely nails the atmosphere. The music is solid, and while I relied on subtitles for the dialogue, the voice acting sounds professionally delivered in its native tongue. As mentioned, the team up link moves are a sight to behold, and are especially noteworthy as eye-catching and exciting. The character and enemy animations are superbly done, and add a lot of character to the fights. The developers at Omega Force and Koei Tecmo absolutely allow their creativity and passions to flow throughout the demo’s length.
Overall, if you are a fan of the Fate series, you were probably going to be onboard for the ride already. For those who are new to the series like myself, the demo definitely gives a nice taste of what to expect, and if you are into the historical fiction-fantasy storytelling that the series provides, as well as some well-crafted hack and slash gameplay, then Fate/Samurai Remnant looks to be a solid choice when it releases in September 28, 2023.

Your local neighborhood nutjob, gamer, and teacher! I'm an avid fan of many genres such as platformers, shooters, horror, etc. I am also an avid tabletop gamer - hugely into the worlds of Warhammer and all of their spinoffs. I'm a big believer in being objective - even if something is not my cup of tea, I want to talk about it on the objective level - is it well made, crafted with love, and with care for the fans? If so, that's a good game in my book for someone and well worth their hard earned dollarydoos!
