The station is empty, but signs of life and what was once a crew still remain. Potted plants are tucked away in the corner of the hallways and food containers can be found scattered on desks. The only indication that the ship is still occupied is the voice of a woman, speaking to you through the intercom system. Her name is Juniper and she needs your help. Developed by Beard Envy and published by Kasedo Games, Filament will lure you in with its addicting puzzles and mysterious backstories. You would think that the more you hear of Juniper’s dialogue, the more you will understand, but instead you will just find more questions. Why is she the only one left? Where did everyone else go? And can you be the hero she needs?
The flagship that you’ve found yourself in is called the Alabaster, and due to an error in the ship’s system, Juniper has been stuck in the orbit of a nearby planet. It seems like the only way to fix the corruption in the system is to enter into the ship’s terminals and successfully connect what look like pillars of light. When you are within the terminal, you are no longer your human self, but an adorable program tethered by a glowing white cord. Each level and each area will progressively become more complex. Not every pillar will be white and stationary as some pillars are colored and will only activate if completed in a certain color pattern. Some are covered in blocks, others activate based on sequences, and there are even pillars that will move. You will need to learn how to keep your cord touching each pillar without breaking the light chain while also staying mindful of using new, innovative ways of overcoming these puzzles.
The flagship is enormous, and you can spend hours exploring your surroundings where you will be able to discover notes, cards, and small clues to what kind of people the crew were and how they lived. However, some of these notes and clues to the crew’s whereabouts can only be unlocked once a terminal has been solved. Despite the somber tone of the mysterious disappearance, and the hint of longing in Juniper’s conversations, Filament, has a relatively cheerful atmosphere. There is no major time-crisis where the lives of millions are counting on you, and there is no gore or violence. Its concept is simple, yet the puzzles and the complex mystery behind everything is what will mesmerize you to revisit the terminals; if only to hear more of what Juniper has to say.
There does seem to be an odd glitch that occurs when in the terminal as your cord seems to occasionally break off and you will be unable to rewind to get this back. The only option to correct this would be to exit out of the terminal to return to the ship or restart the level from the beginning. If there were hints or perhaps a journal detailing what the character learns overtime, this also would be helpful. The puzzles can become quite difficult and feel unsolvable. This frustration of feeling stuck can have you abandoning the puzzle or even have you abandoning the game entirely; no matter how enticing solving the mystery can be.

Video games have always been a huge influence in my life and have definitely shaped me to who I am today . Some of my best memories growing up were the many adventures and stories I was able to experience and become immersed in. If my hands aren't either covered in clay, typing, editing, creating, or helping shoving food in my mouth, they would either be gripped to a controller, tapping away at the screen of my phone, or clicking away on my PC. I am always up for trying something new because why live just one life when you can live many.
