Golf With Your Friends, developed by Team17, has been available for the Nintendo Switch since May 19th. Under the same name, Golf With Your Friends can be found on the PS4, Xbox One, and both PC and Mac.
As most would assume, Golf With Your Friends consists of playing golf! Upon first playing the game, you have access to two choices for courses, each with 18 holes, like a normal game of mini-golf. The forest course perfectly captures the whimsical joy one experiences when at a minigolf green in person: the courses feature wooden structures, windmills, and secret tunnels. Other obstacles are included in Golf With Your Friends that would be more difficult to include in a real-life mini-golf course.
The controls of Golf With Your Friends are simple and easily learned. You can angle your shot, add torque to the ball, and with a sliding scale you add power to your shot. Getting the feel for the amount of power being each shot took me longer than I would have preferred, but once I got the hang of it, I was able to very accurately predict my shot. Although I got above par many times (many bogies, sometimes even double bogies…), I still enjoyed each level.
A feature Golf With Your Friends has is the alternate versions of “golf” you can play: basketball golf, and hockey golf.
Basketball golf (dubbed “Dunk Mode”) consists of mostly the same exact thing as the classical courses in Golf With Your Friends, but instead of a hole at the end, you need to make the puck jump into the basket of a hoop. To me, this found to be pretty challenging, as it turns out the backboard to the basketball hoops are not tangible. When I tried to bank my golf ball into the net, it just flew through the wood and straight onto the grass outside of the course.
Hockey golf (“Hockey Mode”), on the other hand, I found pure ecstasy when playing. Like Dunk Mode, Golf With Your Friends keeps everything the same except for replacing the holes, but this time it’s with hockey nets and a goalie to go along! The goalie moves from side to side in an erratic pattern, but that proved no match for my amazing strategy: get close enough to the cage to simply LAUNCH my puck (oh yeah, it’s a hockey puck instead of a golf ball in this version) into the back of the cage after calculating the movements of the mechanic goalie. Watching that puck go flying even after I struck par was so much fun.
I attempted to use the online feature of Golf With Your Friends, but I was unable to find anyone else to play with. Even so, I would hazard a guess it would be similar to offline play, just taking turns with people. Hopefully, as Golf With Your Friends suggests, with your friends! I’m sure it would just be a blast. I’m trying to convince my own friends to get Golf With Your Friends so we can play together.
Golf With Your Friends is just that: the perfect golf game.
End score: 10/10

Nintendo Switch Review
I'm Zepora, a junior at UC Berkeley studying Economics. I grew up attached to my Game Boy playing the Pokémon games, but now I turn to my consoles as break from school work when I'm not busy with lacrosse. I prefer RPG's with a some action, such as Elder Scrolls and Assassin's Creed (which is my favorite franchise) but am also known to play Super Smash Bros until 3am with my friends.
