Gordon Ramsay: Chef Blast is a mobile puzzle game developed by Outplay Entertainment. It features various levels and exclusive recipes.
Gordon Ramsay: Chef Blast is a fun cube/block matching game. Each level has different goals that must be completed within a given number of moves. Some levels may require a certain amount of a colored block to be matched together. Other levels require a certain amount of boxes to be blasted away or a number of onions to be chopped (or a mixture of both) by tapping matching cubes around the boxes or the onions.
During each level, there’s a progress bar with 3 stars. I believe the progress bar fills up as more blocks are combined and blasted away. One objective to become a culinary master is to complete each level with 3 stars but technically as long as the level goals are met, the level is considered completed and the player can move on to the next level.
As you progress in the game, you unlock tools (hammer, peeler, knife, and whisk) that aid in completing a level. I really liked this feature and wish to see more tools being featured in the future if that’s possible. Some tools like the peeler allow you to peel all the blocks in one column. It’s definitely very powerful during certain levels.
Each player has a maximum of 5 hearts that can be broken when the goal(s) of a level is not met. The hearts replenish at 1 heart per half an hour. When I was playing the game, I felt like it was pretty easy to progress through the levels since no stamina is required to start a level. Only the heart system needs time to replenish and it only breaks when you fail a level. So as long as level goals are met, the hearts will not decrease thus essentially one can continue playing the game for a long time without a break.
That’s not to say every level can be recklessly played as Gordon Ramsay: Chef Blast is a puzzle game. Some levels require certain power-ups or tools to be used to complete the level. Other times, the blocks are placed weirdly so the goals can’t be easily completed unless the level is restarted.
Gordon Ramsay: Chef Blast has a lot of challenges to keep players entertained and to make level completion with the full 3 stars rewarding. Some challenges require a certain amount of stars to unlock an exclusive recipe. Other challenges require making certain power-ups to obtain a reward.
I really liked the recipe gallery feature in the game. It’s unique that this game provides the ability to obtain Gordon Ramsay’s recipes. The recipes unlocked are actually recipes that can be followed to make the dish. I thought this was super neat.
Upon reaching certain stage levels, gifts can be open that contain coins which help to add 5 extra moves when a level goal hasn’t been met in the default number of moves or for purchasing more tools and power-ups. Gordon Ramsay: Chef Blast also has a player level where certain levels unlock new player profiles. I think it would be cool if there were badges for players, too (novice chef, intermediate chef, culinary master, etc.).
Streaks are also introduced in the game. The better the win streak, the more power-ups provided at the start of each level.
As for my rating, I would give Gordon Ramsay: Chef Blast a 9/10. I had fun playing the game and trying to unlock certain recipes. The graphics are very well done. I liked how some lines spoken by the animated version of Gordon Ramsay are voiced by the man himself. I definitely think there could be more features added to the game. For example, a login bonus/check-in bonus would be nice to get more power-ups or tools. Perhaps even to unlock a certain profile picture or frame. Going off that, a profile frame might be a good addition to add to make each player/chef profile unique.
There’s also no way to restart a level at the moment. It seems as if the objective of the game is a push towards the end/completing the highest number of levels. For me, I wish I was able to restart levels that I completed but didn’t get a perfect 3 star on.

iPhone Review
I'm a sophomore studying Computer Science at the University of Michigan. I'm really interested in how technology can impact lives through game development. One of the things that I really like about gaming is that, not only is it fun and relaxing, but there are so many ideas you can incorporate into games and their storylines such as meaningful lessons/messages.
