We had a chance to check out Grow: Song of the Evertree, a world developing sim, developed by Prideful Sloth and published by 505 Games. Grow: Song of the Evertree is coming out on Steam in November this year.
Grow: Song of the Evertree allows players to play as an alchemist who is responsible to grow worlds on an Evertree, a world tree like entity. The Evertree has been corrupted and the previous population had to leave the town. Only our main protagonist is left behind, who is going to help clear the corruption and use the world seed to grow the Evertree.
There are a bunch of activities the player will be able to enjoy that include sowing the seed and cleaning up the corruption using different tools, which allows you to clean up the unnecessary mess on seed planting locations. That includes using axe, hammers, sickle, water can, seeds, fishing rod, and bug catching net. As we cleanup the mess and plant more trees, the plantation grows on the site and starts flourishing with vegetation and wildlife. There are cute critters that can be tamed.
After a day, players are introduced to Everkin, an elder species that allows the player to gain more resources and knowledge about how life around the Evertree works; in turn, Everkin helps out in clearing out the corruption to rebuild the lost towns.
Once the town areas are cleared of corruption and port has been rebuilt, NPCs will start arriving and the player will have to start building specific homes and occupation building regarding the specific NPCs. Older residents of the town slowly start returning back as well.
There are a bunch of other activities that the player can find throughout the exploration, and Grow: Song of the Evertree provides a perfect introduction to each activity without overburdening players with everything at once. There are some bugs that we found regarding picking up things and some graphical issues with lights, but since the game was a preview version and not a full one, we are expecting the full release will have a better experience with bugs. And, we are definitely looking forward to how the world of Evertree grows in the full release.
