GUNDAM EVOLUTION Closed Network Test Impressions for PlayStation

Greetings Gamers, Greg here from Gaming Cypher to talk about Closed Network first gameplay test for Gundam Evolution, a team-based online first-person multiplayer game, by Bandai Namco, where you play with Gundam’s most iconic mechs. Face off in a six-player team versus another six-player team in an objective-based first-person shooter. I play a lot of Overwatch and, if you are familiar with its format, it’s a very similar framework but reskinned with some giant robots. However, you do gain some very unique abilities from one Gundam to the next.

There are three different game types: point capture, domination, and destruction. Each offering a change of pass from the last. In point capture, it is similar to many other capture-the-point shooters. Beyond shooting, l the other team you need to either attack or defend the area highlighted on screen. Domination is where you battle for 3 randomly unlocked objectives on the map. And finally, destruction where you aim to destroy or protect the objectives on the map as teams try to blow up the other’s point by setting large format charges.

The mechs range vastly from one another offering melee attacks, sniper rifles, machine guns, rocket launchers, or even a remote control war ship that explodes on your enemies. Its really fun to explore the different play styles of each mech and try to work as a team as best you can. It doesn’t have the super-defined meta-game mechanics like overwatch where you need two tanks, two healers, and two DPS. It’s much more of a pick what you want; hopefully, the team will work out. Some mechs offer healing as well as DPS or a shield and a gun. There are many combos of style just in the currently available playable characters.  

I would like it if they could spend a little time more on polishing the overall graphics and level design. Running around in a giant mech doesn’t seem all that large when every place you fight is made at your scale and you are fighting other giant mechs. It would be nice to see many more human-size things moving around the maps. I understand that most logical people would already be inside safe from danger, but as an example, I would love for there to be that last-minute fuel tanker that needs to be moved to safety and maybe you can shoot it and blow it up causing damage to an enemy. Overall, I enjoyed this version of the game and look forward to playing it more in the future. Similar to other 6v6 multiplayer shooters but with jetpacks and turbo.
