Introduction/Information about game
The game Harlow was officially released on the Nintendo Switch recently in July 2022 by Rogue Games. This game is a platforming game where robots must find a landing spot on an uninhabited planet after their spaceship goes off course so that they can throw the humans on the ship a party (In hopes that the humans won’t freak out that the ship went off course) . I love platformers, usually of any kind. I am glad to say that this game is one of those fun platformers that I believe anyone can enjoy.
Gameplay
The gameplay for Harlow was very simple for a platformer. The player plays as a robot named Harlow and the ship he is in has run into a big problem. The ship has gone off course near an uninhabited planet. They do not have enough power to get back on track, so Harlow and the other robots who assist him go to the planet in hopes they can land there. While they are traversing the new planet, they find power cores, which are necessary for powering the ship. After that, Harlow and the robots decide that they can use these to land on the planet and throw the humans on the ship a surprise party (mainly so that they don’t freak out that they have gone off course). The player, as Harlow, must platform through each level gathering power cores to help the spaceship get enough power to land.
The controls of this game are very simple. The player uses the left analog stick to choose a direction and the A button to jump to that direction. The player gets two jumps that regenerate each time they hit the ground. The goal of each level is to get three power cores and make it to the end. Of course, the game doesn’t just give them to the player. The player must evade traps to avoid dying and solve puzzles to progress through the level. These traps include fire traps, crushing columns, and pits of what look like nuclear waste. If the player does die trying to get the power cores, they have nothing to fear. The game simply just puts them back to their last checkpoint. The levels in this game are designed very well. Each level is not too hard to where the player is just dying constantly, but also not too easy to where the player is not just jumping around aimlessly and still completing each level.
Final thoughts
Overall, the game Harlow is a very simple, but very fun platformer that I believe anyone can enjoy. I believe this game was made very well. The gameplay was very fun and the levels were designed very well. If you are the kind of person who enjoys simple platformers or just platformers in general, then I highly recommend this game.
