Knight Squad 2 is an action-packed multiplayer arcade game developed and published by Chainsawesome Games. In this latest installment, you’ll take control of an eccentric, medieval warrior and compete against seven other knights in a multitude of exciting game modes. You can also challenge your friends online and until you’ve won the title of champion knight.
As mentioned before, the game is comprised of 13 different game modes to choose from in Simple Match mode. There’s also the Tourney mode that puts you and your opponents through a gauntlet of bloody matches until one knight reigns supreme by winning three rounds.
The modes are comprised of: Capture the Grail, Capture the Flag, Soccer, Gladiator, Battle Royale, Juggernaut, Domination, Crystal Rush, Soul Hunter, Race, Minion Master, Payload, and finally, Painter. After picking a game, you’ll battle against other online players or COMs to complete the objective first.
During a match, different weapon and status upgrades will also appear on the map that can help your chances of winning. Some of these upgrades include giving your sword a longer reach, casting an ice curse on your foes, riding an armored horse and so much more. If you’re also tired of going solo, some game modes can also be played in duos or squads. However, this will require some serious teamwork.
With a wide variety of unique game modes at your disposal, it’s hard to lose interest in Knight Squad 2 since each one is guaranteed to keep you engaged through its fast-paced gameplay. After playing these modes with friends or COMs after a while, you’ll be obsessed with wanting to master every one of them. Each game mode has its own appeal to them, but some of the highlights include Payload, Race, and Soul Hunter.
In Payload, you and your squad of three other knights have to fight for control over a cart of bombs in order to send it to the opposing team’s base. The only way to move the payload is to stand next to it, making it change the area around it to the color of your team. The struggle for control over the payload is both stressful and exhilarating as there may be times when you’re left alone to defend it against four angry knights.
Soul Hunter is a great mode to try out because along with the thrill of slaying your enemies comes the danger of losing all your hard work with one wrong move. It can be played in either Free for All, Duos, or Squads, and the objective is that you must defeat enough enemies and bring their “souls” to your spawn point to score points for yourself/team. You may become so engrossed in combat that an enemy player could come in and steal all your souls by stabbing you in the back, making it a mode where you always have to be alert.
Finally, there’s the Race game mode, which is personally a smart choice to throw into the mix as it brings a new layer to Knight Squad 2’s gameplay. As the name would suggest, your objective is to maneuver around the deadly track and come in first place. However, it’s not that simple as your opponents can kill you during the race. Thankfully, you can do the same to them, and doing so gives your knight a burst of speed. While most of the game modes have you cutting down your enemies enough times to win, Race gives the option of trying something equally challenging but also completely different gameplaywise.
Once you’ve invested enough time into Knight Squad 2, you’ll unlock new playable knights in the Knight Club by completing certain conditions for each character (some of these are easier than others). After you’ve unlocked a knight, you’ll also get a chance to get their unique sword after ranking up enough kills while using them. Every knight has their own charm to them so it’s worth putting in that extra time.
Knight Squad 2 truly excels through its terrific top-down gameplay combined with its colorful and fun art style. The only downside is that while most of the game modes provide an amazing experience, a few of the others have their flaws. For example, Juggernaut is a game mode where the goal is to obtain a powerful minigun and lay waste to your enemies. While the power fantasy is enjoyable at first, it can get dull and frustrating after a while when you’re trying to either take the gun away from an opponent or doing the killing yourself. This issue is apparent with some of the other game modes as well. Fortunately, there’s such a wide selection of modes to choose from to always help keep you interested. Overall, Chainsawesome Games achieved greatness in this latest installment making it worth doing battle with your friends in medieval combat on the Switch.

Nintendo Switch Review
I've loved playing video games ever since I first played Battletoads on the NES when I was a kid. Since then, I've played a wide variety of games on different systems, including Xbox One, PS4, Switch, and have mostly gravitated towards open-world RPGs and action-adventure games with amazing storylines and character arcs. I'm passionate when comes to writing and interested in working as a narrative designer.
