Knockout Home Fitness, developed by Marvelous Inc. and published by XSEED Games is a fitness game that utilizes the Nintendo Switch’s Joycon remotes to track player movement and exercise. The game focuses on martial-arts style moves, getting the player to throw different kinds of punches and kicks along to the beat of the music playing. This is a very familiar format for both fitness and dancing video games.
Having not played another fitness game on my Switch before, I found myself pleasantly surprised by the kind of exercises offered. They are, in my opinion, a bit more exciting than some traditional cardio moves, and the musical element was also fun. The game makes the instructions and moves easy enough, especially at the beginning, that it is very easy to get into the swing of the game.
There are two different game modes available in Knockout Home Fitness. There is a Personal Training mode, which creates workouts tailored to the player each day. The player can only play this mode once a day, but the exercise routines played in this game mode are then unlocked in the 3-Minute Fitness mode, which can be played whenever. There is also a report available to display player progress.
I found the Personal Trainer mode quite fun, and though it was rather simple to begin with, I didn’t mind that at all. I found myself looking forward to future workouts that would be more complicated and would require me to retain exercises I had learned previously. This is definitely a game I can see myself playing in place of doing a quick cardio workout, mostly because it is more fun and very convenient!
Though I had fun with the initial workout, I was a bit disappointed when I looked at the 3-Minute Fitness mode and saw that I had only unlocked three workouts, which were based on what I had just done. I was eager to learn more and spend a bit more time, but new exercises are unlocked in the Personal Trainer mode, which is only available once daily. I think this is the biggest drawback of the game for me. At a certain point, there is not much for the player to do but wait to play the next day. For this reason, it seems like it will take a bit of time to build up to a really robust workout, if that is what the player is looking for. Unlocking a large collection of 3-Minute Fitness workouts to do on top of the Personal Trainer mode will definitely take a good amount of time, and requires the player to play very consistently.
That being said, I think this game is still quite fun, and I am excited to unlock the other three trainers available, who apparently all have their own personalities. For players looking for a quick, fun workout, I think Knockout Home Fitness fits that role very nicely. I am giving this game an 8/10, and I will definitely be revisiting it to unlock more workouts!

Nintendo Switch Review
I have been playing video games since I got my first pink Gameboy Advance SP when I was six years old. From that point on, video games have held a special place in my heart and I have been fascinated by the way games involve the player in the narrative and how their mechanics interact with that narrative. As an aspiring video game narrative writer, I jump at the opportunity to play any and all games at my disposal.
