Recently, I had a chance to attend the Laser League online demo, a game developed by Roll 7 and published by 505 Games. I was given the chance to get a look at the game before its open beta, which will run from today, Friday, January 26 at 9:00 AM PST through Sunday, January 28 at 10:00 PM PST on Steam.
Laser League is a competitive, futuristic, team-based game where the goal is to dodge enemy lasers and outwit the opposing team with strategy and high-speed precision and eventually emerge victorious.
Laser League has six different classes to choose from. Whether you want to play offensive, defensive, or supportive – there’s a role for any style of play.
- Blade: Short-range attack in a specific direction to eliminate opponents
- Shock: Small AOE that stuns enemies around player
- Smash: Long-range dash attack that pushes opponents across the map in direction of smash
- Snipe: Can place a marker and teleport back to it, drawing a line across the map and killing opponents in contact with it.
- Ghost: Invincibility that lasts a few seconds
- Thief: Steal laser nodes within range from opponents
In addition to these classes, there are modifiers that you can equip to further supplement your style of play. These are different for each class, but they include changes such as longer lasting abilities, invincibility after ability use, longer knockout time for opponents, and more.
The most important thing about Laser League is survival. The best way to ensure that your team wins is to have great map awareness and revive any downed team members. Any dead teammates leave a hexagonal marker on the map, which you can then run over to revive them.
In addition to survival, you must also defeat the enemy team. To help you in doing so, there are hexagonal power ups that appear on the map. There are currently 13 different power ups, each with a different effect. Depending on which team gets them, it may change the tide of the battle.
In Laser League, there are three different stadiums to choose from – Empire Campus Stadium (London, UK), Geng Hao Megaplex (Tianjin, China), and Silvertip Arena (Detroit, USA). In addition to that, each stadium contains four different laser patterns, which heavily affect the style of play you must take to triumph.
Overall, Laser League is a very challenging, yet addicting game to play that also has appealing graphics. Definitely check out Laser League if you’re a fan of competitive, fast-paced, strategy games.
