League of Legends Kicks Off 2025 with Season One Featuring Noxian Domination

The League of Legends team released a new Dev Update video today to start the year, which details a ton of content players can anticipate as Season One gets underway. This comes after the release of a brand-new cinematic yesterday.

League of Legends Kicks Off 2025 with Season One Featuring Noxian Domination

Greetings from the League of Legends Noxus

  • Noxus will begin to infiltrate Summoner’s Rift on January 9th, bringing with it new music, visuals, and structures as well as a new in-game objective called Atakhan, Bringer of Ruin.
  • At the 20-minute mark, Atakhan will appear on the map’s top or bottom in one of two different forms. He will permanently alter the terrain and give the team that defeats him a permanent bonus.
  • There will be modifications to Teleport, new runes, equipment, and a system called Feats of Strength that allows access to more advanced, potent boots.
  • There will only be one Ranked reset this year, as was mentioned in November, and it will happen on January 9 at 12:00 PM local time in all regions.
  • The eight patches that make up Season One will be divided into two Acts, each of which will have its own Battle Pass with a variety of Act-themed goodies, such as skins, borders, and other items.
  • Yesterday saw the premiere of the Season One 2025 cinematic, “Welcome to Noxus,” which included the original music “Bite Marks” by TEYA.

Mel the Soul’s Reflection

  • In the upcoming patch for this season, Mel Medarda—whom players may have first encountered in Arcane—will be added to the list of available champions in the game. At the conclusion of the last season of Arcane, Mel shows up with a new, Noxian-inspired look that reflects her acceptance of her Noxian origins and roots. She adds projectile reflection, a brand-new gameplay style, to the roster. She can reflect non-targeted abilities back in the direction of the opponent and targeted skills back at their original caster thanks to her Rebuttal ability.
  • Mel will be free to unlock through one of the seasonal quests in honor of the start of the Season of Noxus.
  • Ambessa: Chosen of the Wolf, which will be published in February, will allow players to delve deeper into her past.

Narrative Expansions

  • Act Two of League of Legends will provide additional in-game thematic narrative expressions, such as the Reckoning Pits of Noxus, as well as out-of-game media, such as motion comics and mini-games, as Season One goes on.
  • Later this season, a brand-new minigame will launch with the goal of further integrating in-game and out-of-game activities and bringing the Runeterra universe to life.
  • This season, LeBlanc will receive a visual change, and later this year, a champion update will follow.
  • The League of Legends team also disclosed that, in addition to the primary Runeterra realm, season themes would be open to other universes.

Cosmetics

  • Season One will release many skins focused on Noxus, with the first set being the Masque of the Black Rose skins: Masque of the Black Rose Samira, Masque of the Black Rose Renata Glasc, Masque of the Black Rose Ezreal, Masque of the Black Rose Vladimir, Masque of the Black Rose Elise, and Prestige Masque of the Black Rose Katarina.
  • These will be the season’s first Battle Pass reward skins. The free pass will be earned by Elise. With Katarina as the Prestige capstone for the premium Act One Battle Pass, Samira, Renata Glasc, and Vladimir will be available for purchase. Ezreal will be sold directly to consumers.
  • While Cassiopeia and Qiyana will soon be available as Prestige skins for Mythic Essence, Katarina and Darius’s Prestige skins will be accessible through their Battle Pass.
  • In addition to Season One-related skins, beloved skin themes like Cafe Cuties will be back, and brand-new skin themes will be introduced.
  • This year, three victorious skins will be released, each with its unique theme apart from the season to which it is related.
  • In honor of the Year of the Snake, Radiant Serpent Sett will be the season’s first Exalted skin to be released. The particular topic of the second Exalted skin of the season will be revealed later. It will be for Mordekaiser.

eSports

  • To promote innovation and flexibility, Split 1 will see the introduction of Full Fearless Draft, which prohibits champions utilized in earlier games in a best-of series.
  • The top teams from Split 1 will compete in best-of-flight matches at the First Stand Tournament, which will take place from March 10–16 at LoL Park in Seoul, Korea. This event will highlight the greatest international play of the early LoL Esports season. The victorious team will go straight to the bracket stage at MSI 2025, earning them a second bye for their area.
  • While Worlds 2025 will be staged in several famous Chinese locations, including Beijing for the Play-Ins and Swiss Stage, Shanghai for the Quarterfinals and Semifinals, and Chengdu for the Finals, MSI 2025 will take place in Vancouver, Canada, from June 27 to July 12.
  • First Stand will take place in Brazil in 2026, followed by MSI in Korea and Worlds in North America. MSI will return to Europe in 2027, Worlds will take place in Korea, and First Stand will take place in Southeast Asia.

Game Modes

In Act One, all Random URF will be available, and in Act Two, Arena will return with a Noxian update that includes a Noxus map with a gladiator pit motif and a feature unique to that map. All Arena maps will also have a new feature called Guests of Honor, which allows players to vote on which well-known Noxian they want to change the game’s rules. Based on user input, Arena will also get new items and augments in addition to modifications to terrain like Koi Pond.
