Big Blue Sky Games, an independent game developer dedicated to creating inspirational games, has revealed its debut game, Merchants of Rosewall. Launching on PC via Steam this year, Merchants of Rosewall is a shopkeeper simulation game that challenges players to manage their own customizable shop all while uncovering the mysteries of a majestic city that has always been shaped by prominent citizens.
Merchants of Rosewall offers an enhanced shopkeeping simulation gameplay experience with innovative progression tracking and in-game weather models that impact resources, supply and customer behavior. The game features a rich tapestry of characters – including Giants, Orcs, Elves and Corkgnomes – with distinct backgrounds, personalities and ambitions. Players will have access to dozens of available perks and side quests, in addition to participating in a vibrant, fully shared online economy in cooperation, or competition, with their friends to help improve their companions, shop capabilities and efficiencies.
“At Big Blue Sky Games, we want to create games that feel easy to pick-up-and-play, with narratives that players haven’t seen considered in other games,” said Kevin Hovdestad, game director at Big Blue Sky Games. “With Merchants of Rosewall, we’re challenging stereotypes and conventions in the fantasy genre; we’re inviting players into an imaginative universe that breaks away from cliches and lets players experience real world issues through nuanced storytelling and complex conversations. We are excited for players to get their hands on the game later this year.”
In Merchants of Rosewall’s cozy setting, building, crafting, trading and sourcing material are the first steps toward delivering the patrons of Rosewall exactly what they want. Players must keep up with trends, discover recipes and forge relationships with artisans and other specialists to keep their enterprise growing in a world that runs on horsepower, steam power and a little bit of magic.
Big Blue Sky Games’ mission is to create wondrous experiences that bring people together from all communities. In pursuit of that vision, the studio has hired a diverse talent pool of seasoned developers with AAA backgrounds from companies like Bungie, Electronic Arts, PUBG and Blizzard, in addition to a majority-women engineering team, and women-led production and art teams. Big Blue Sky Games operationalizes policies and structures to realize game worlds of inclusivity and belonging.
