New eSports Event Brings Together Top Collegiate eSports Players from North and South Carolina, Active Duty Servicemembers and Veterans for Major Competition at NC State
Washington, DC and Austin, TX (January 12, 2016) – Military charity Operation Supply Drop (OSD) – the world’s most generationally relevant support organization for veterans and active duty military – today announces their attendance at the inaugural Clash of the Carolinas eSports event, set to be the largest East Coast collegiate eSports competition to date. The best collegiate eSports players from 14 universities across North and South Carolina will take part in a two-day gaming competition held at NC State from January 16 – 17, 2016. The event will be headlined by four tournaments, pitting players against each other in League of Legends, Counter-Strike: Global Offensive, Hearthstone and Super Smash Bros Melee.
Headlining events in the Clash of the Carolinas feature teams from the Carolina Collegiate eSports Committee (CCEC) – a group of gaming club presidents from various universities across North and South Carolina. The list of schools include the University of North Carolina Chapel Hill, the University of North Carolina Charlotte, the University of North Carolina Greensboro, North Carolina State University, Appalachian State University, Western Carolina University, Eastern Carolina University, Elon, Duke, Durham Tech, the University of South Carolina, Clemson and Wake Forest.
“With Clash of the Carolinas, we’re looking at an eSports event that will support the growing collegiate eSports community and help us raise awareness for how others can support American servicemen and women,” said Ray Whitaker, Chief Operating Officer of Operation Supply Drop. “Positioned between multiple military locations such as Fort Bragg and Camp Lejeune, NC State is an excellent venue for Clash of the Carolinas.” He adds, “We’re excited to attend this huge event where competitive gamers, servicemembers, veterans and civilians will have fun together while championing support for our troops.”
While admittance to Clash of the Carolinas is free, all proceeds from the event will benefit the OSD charity and its mission to support active-duty service members and veterans. Attendees – from local civilians, Carolinas-based military and businesses – are encouraged to attend the event and contribute via an on-site OSD booth with fully tax-deductible monetary or in-kind donations to support OSD’s three primary programs: The Teams (local volunteering and support, uniting civilians and veterans), Supply Drops (video game care packages and morale building events), and Thank You Deployments (gaming insider, entertainment and other exclusive VIP experiences). Donations during the Clash of the Carolinas event can additionally be made by visiting here.
Attendees of Clash of the Carolinas will be able to take part in smaller public tournaments during the event, and will have access to a variety of panels and activities, including giveaways. Loot Crate has generously donated 1,000 crates, which attendees can win throughout the weekend.
Clash of the Carolinas begins January 16, 2016 at 10 AM EST at NC State’s Talley Student Union (2610 Cates Ave, Raleigh, NC 27606). For more information on the event, please visit here.
