It’s been three years, but now the wait is nearly over! Brought to you by the lovely folks at Panthea Games and with publication help by PM Studios, My Time at Sandrock is the long awaited successor to My Time at Portia (MTAP) (Check Out My Review!). This sandbox RPG continues the same lore and world building that is found in MTAP, just in a different town and in a different environment. Instead of the bountiful, lush green landscape of Portia, Sandrock is in rougher shape and reliable builders are in hot demand. With some elbow grease and help from your fellow Sandrockians, this desert town can be rebuilt back into a beautiful oasis.
As a new baby-faced builder there is no better place to test your commitment and skill to your practice than setting up your workshop in the desert town of Sandrock. Hot weather, frequent sandstorms, and sparse materials has made living in this town no easy feat. Water is especially scarce and more prized than gold as it is the literally the life source for the people in the community, as well as a necessity for your trade. You will need to save up as much as you can collect so your equipment doesn’t overheat in the hot desert landscape. Wood is also not as readily available as it was in Portia as chopping down what little trees that surround the town is highly frowned upon. This all means that scavenging plays a huge role in this game and going through piles of junk is to be expected. For a town in the desert, Sandrock is surprisingly green as the slogan, “Reduce, reuse, and recycle” will be key to your success.
The citizens of Sandrock are tough, resourceful, and loyal. While some are a bit more eccentric than others, they are all no less an amazing part of the community. Get to know everyone, listen to their stories, and don’t be too shy. Much like in the first game in MTAP, or games such as Harvest Moon and Stardew Valley, you also can romance the eligible bachelors and bachelorettes of Sandrock. Find out what they love and do your best to woo them. Even if romancing isn’t your main priority, being on good terms with everyone can score you some discounts and the occasional helping hand.
There is always something to do and be done at Sandrock. Whether it’s taking commissions, fixing something damaged by the harsh desert conditions, or fighting off lizard bandits, there really isn’t enough hours in a day. Just don’t forget to keep a close eye on your calendar and mission log as commission due dates, birthdays, and town events are also critical for your reputation. No matter how you decide to spend your time farming, crafting, exploring, or romancing, this is the perfect game to unwind after a long tiring day. Whatever you chose to do, Sandrock welcomes all with a warm embrace.
PROS: Gorgeous scenery and environments, lovely music, and just all around wholesome. This has everything that you love from My Time at Portia and more!
While there are quite a few glitches and bugs in this Early Access game, My Time at Sandrock still shines as a great successor to its much beloved predecessor. If this is how the game is in Early Access, then the full release is truly promising.
CONS: Visual and game mechanic glitches that can cause players to fail missions.

Video games have always been a huge influence in my life and have definitely shaped me to who I am today . Some of my best memories growing up were the many adventures and stories I was able to experience and become immersed in. If my hands aren't either covered in clay, typing, editing, creating, or helping shoving food in my mouth, they would either be gripped to a controller, tapping away at the screen of my phone, or clicking away on my PC. I am always up for trying something new because why live just one life when you can live many.
