Need for Speed: Hot Pursuit Remastered, by Criterion Games, in collaboration with Stellar Entertainment, is back after 10 years as a remaster. Electronic Arts has done some amazing work with Need for Speed series over the years. Hot Pursuit has been one of the gems of the past. I still remember Hot Pursuit and playing as a cop as well as a racer that has been filled with great excitement.
After playing several of the latest racing games recently, I haven’t played Need for Speed for a long amount of time and I had forgotten the feeling of the series, but Hot Pursuit Remastered brings all the feel from 2010 back. Need for Speed: Hot Pursuit Remastered is an amazing package that brings all the expansion packs in one.
Need for Speed: Hot Pursuit Remastered starts off usual and we get that nostalgic soundtrack at the start of the game. UI still feels the same. A lot of races are still challenging, especially the cop time trials, and gives the player that required frustration. For the players who have not played Hot Pursuit, the campaign starts of with players racing and getting some tutorials/introduction. And then the player is also provided a small intro on cop races, which mostly requires stopping or chasing the racers. Each type of racer, whether an illegal racer or a cop, will have some weapons to dispose during the race, such as spike strip, emp, roadblock, etc. As the player completes the races, based on reputation on each faction, the player will be able to unlock more cars and races and areas on the map as well. The feel of taking down any car using the available weapon or simple takedown makes the adrenaline in the body running high.
Graphics for Need for Speed: Hot Pursuit Remastered looks very crisp with high resolution. Even the textures feel amazing and the game runs so smoothly. But the downside of the game is the datedness of the Hot Pursuit Remastered, as there just aren’t many additions to the game other than looks. The cars are still the same from 2010 version. There is no doubt that I definitely missed playing Need for Speed, but at least for the player who has already played, Hot Pursuit Remastered does not bring anything new to the game other than looks and feel, as this is not a reboot.
Overall, Need for Speed: Hot Pursuit Remastered brings that nostalgia back but because of the datedness, it makes the game gem of its own time. I would rate this game 7.5 stars out of 10.
