Overwatch League Midseason Check Up

Overwatch League Midseason Check Up

With 14 action packed matches being played, the second season of Overwatch League is about halfway through. As you may or may not already know, this year’s stakes are higher than ever for the 20 competing teams. Not only is there a $500,000.00 prize pool which the top performing teams will fight for at the end of each stage. Those reaching the season playoffs in September will also have a chance to get their hands on the biggest piece of $3,500,000.00 which is twice a big of a prize pot as last year’s season.

Never heard of Overwatch League before? Here’s a quick breakdown!

  • 20 teams compete in four one month long stages with seven matches played in each
  • Each stage has its own leaderboard, but there is also an overall one for the entire season
  •  After each stage the eight teams with the most matches won compete in stage playoffs
  • Stage playoffs don’t affect the overall leaderboard, but give teams a chance to win extra $
  • After all of the four stages have been played season playoffs with eight teams will take place
  • The six teams with most wins in all of the four stages instantly qualify for the season playoffs
  • The seventh through twelfth placed teams on the leaderboard will fight for two remaining spots

Two out of four stages have finished and so far it’s been a showdown between Vancouver Titans and San Francisco Shock. These teams have shown some incredible skill and have both been the final playoff contenders in the two stages. Both of them have earned a nice $300,000.00 cash prize as Vancouver Titans were the finalists in stage one winning 4 – 3 and San Francisco Shock the finalists in stage two winning 4 – 2.

Even though these teams have been raking in the most money, they are not the only ones who have come to play. Checking the leaderboard standings we find that New York Excelsior led by team captain ‘Saebyeolbe’ is competing with the top dogs. Out of the 14 stage matches played they have won 12 which are just two behind Vancouver Titans who have been dominating and winning all of theirs.

If this streak will continue or not, we’ll find out on the 7th of June when the third stage is kicking off. We still have a few weeks to go until this and we know that a lot of Overwatch fans can’t wait for the action start. Should you be one of these and also into gambling now would therefore be a great time to place bets for the season winner.

There are many bookmarkers online that offer odds on the Overwatch League – both on the matches in the stages and on the final winner of the season playoffs in September. As there is an entire month between stages, this is usually a great time to analyze the standings and combine the enthusiasm of the league with the excitement of betting.
