Overwatch Season Series: Week 4 Recap!

Overwatch Season Series: Week 4 Recap!

Welcome back! This week we are breaking down the EU leaderboard, as promised. As the season progresses, we are starting to see dominant players and teams emerge, so we are going to be reviewing the top Tanks, Supports, and DPS players. However, we also wanted to stress that there are several other players in the league who have made great plays and had a huge impact on their teams, so do not think that we are not noticing you if you are not mentioned below! Especially at this level, everyone is a top-notch player, and we appreciate everyone’s enthusiasm and participation.

Starting off with Tanks, the top three players (from bottom to top) are Goldiea (CDTB), Mc_matty (White Forest), and IMFAYA (Myrage). First of all, Goldiea is a pillar of consistency, and sustainability is needed with main tanks to keep the team together as a unit. He has a knack for keeping the team organized, encouraging synergy, and coordinates ultimates. Moving on, Mc_matty made a dazzling debut in the first week’s match, when he personally hooked the enemy Pharah out of the sky as Roadhog, putting many fights in his team’s favor. Finally, IMFAYA also possesses consistency and sustainability, but he also has an incredible ability to react. His defensive positioning as Reinhardt helps a lot with neutralizing DPS opposition players, and he excels at getting inside other main tanks’ head. This very intelligent, high IQ defense mindset always propels him to victory. Some honorable mentions are: OoArTiisTzZ, known for his aggression as a main tank; Aezeph, who is great at defensive matrix usage); and benoslays, who is a terrific D.Va and always protects his own team’s Moira.

In terms of support players, we have Ryzecap (Myrage), Mishaal58 (Squall Clan), and Wad__ (CDTB). Ryzecap is a Mercy player, and it is common knowledge that if your team’s Mercy goes down early, you are at a major disadvantage. Ryzecap takes survivability to the next level and always waits for the later point in the match to go down and help his team. Mishaal58, meanwhile, has wonderful adaptability and can flex between lots of supports. This allowws his team to have a lot of compositions and adapt to opposition on a support front. Lastly, Wad__  plays mostly Mercy or Moira, and he has a higher healing per minute than any other player in the league. As Mercy, he balances between healing Pharah and other players, which is extremely hard to do. For Moira, he takes advantage of the hero’s ability to heal more than one hero at once, which many other Moira players do not take advantage of enough. With honorable mentions, we have HmodXx-R, who is a mix between Ryzecap and Wad__ and also balances between healing Pharah and rest of team.

For DPS players, the leaders are Goku-511 (Osh Tekk Wariors) as number one, Physio (Squall Clan) as number two, and Mysterious (CDTB) as number one. Goku-511 has been on the scene for awhile, like many others, and he specializes in Pharah and Genji.  Not many other players on his level specialize in the latter hero, so this acts as a hidden advantage against many other teams. Physio-Squall Clan is an exceptional Pharah, and he specializes in Pharah duels in the air. Generally speaking, taking out an enemy Pharah means that your team has huge advantage and more resources, so he is a huge asset to his team. Last but not least, Mysterious is also a phenomenal Pharah player, but if he is losing the battle he can also switch to Widowmaker and play at an amazing level. This complete DPS flexibility allows Mysterious to change his own game and adapt his own ability to who he’s fighting–by molding his style, he can inflict amazing damage. Honorable DPS mentions are: Verox, who is good at getting early picks and giving his team early confidence; The_Haxor, who specializes in Solder and McCree and often works well with his teammate Mysterious; Gangst3rPuppy, who makes many not-so-obvious picks and possesses intelligent ultimate usage; and Sukr1u, who is a great Widowmaker player and stands out with his Widowmaker battles–he always finds some way to beat his opponent, making things unpredictable even without lots of resources.

We would like to thank everyone for an outstanding show so far! Again, it has been very hard to narrow it down to the top three in every category, so don’t feel as though your plays are going unnoticed if you are not listed. If we could, we would feature every single player in this article for their stellar performance. Also remember that we have just about reached the midpoint in the season, so don’t write off the lower ranked teams or players just yet. Anyone could move up or down, and we cannot wait to see what unfolds! Be sure to tune in with us this Sunday at https://www.twitch.tv/amateurgamer3

From the moment I first played Lego Star Wars II: The Original Trilogy on the original Xbox, I have always had an avid curiosity and enthusiasm for video games. I admire their ability to immerse us in completely different worlds, and I am always eager to see how they integrate the newest breakthroughs in digital technology to make virtual reality feel real. I am currently a senior at UC Berkeley, but when I'm not studying I always make time to play Xbox One with my younger brother.
