We had the pleasure of playing Nyric, by Lovelace Studios, at PAX East 2025. Stepping into the Nyric demo feels like wielding a creator’s brush. The core concept – typing a simple phrase to conjure an entire playable world—is immediately captivating. My first prompt, “a Zelda-like world,” materialized with surprising fidelity, revealing rolling green hills, ancient-looking stone structures, and a hint of magic in the air.

Discovering and interacting with the Faebots, AI companions with distinct personalities, added an intriguing layer. Their reactions to my choices and the environment made them feel less like tools and more like quirky, unpredictable allies. Building a makeshift shelter near some mysterious ruins as a procedurally generated rain shower began, with a curious Faebot by my side, was a standout moment.
The demo hinted at a vast potential for emergent storytelling, especially with the end-of-session narrative recap that framed my brief adventure as a memorable dream. While still in development, Nyric’s demo offers a tantalizing glimpse into a truly player-driven survival experience where imagination isn’t just encouraged, it’s the very foundation of the world. It’s a bold and promising direction for the genre.
You can wishlist Nyric for PC via Steam right now.
