We checked out a few games at Marvelous USA and XSEED Games at PAX East 2025, Rune Factory: Guardians of Azuma and Big Catch.
Big Catch:
Big Catch is a 3rd-person adventure platformer set in a world ripe with secrets and history. Players take on the role of Caster, tasked with gathering ingredients for his boss’s restaurant. The gameplay is fluid, with the fishing rod serving as both a weapon for combat and a tool for navigating the environment through grappling. Visually, the game features retro 3D graphics reminiscent of the PS2 era, aiming for a nostalgic experience.
Overall, Big Catch appears to be a promising title anticipated to launch in 2025, although a specific release timeline has not yet been announced.
Rune Factory Guardians of Azuma:
Rune Factory Guardians of Azuma, a launch title for Switch 2, blends farming/village simulation with adventure and combat. Players choose between two characters who use unique relics to unlock locations and expand their farm for resources.
Hands-on demos showcased two key aspects. The Farming Simulator demo involved setting up various buildings like a General Store and Blacksmith, alongside farm plots. Players can assign villagers with specific skills to manage farming and resource gathering in these buildings.
The second demo focused on dungeon and world exploration, featuring combat against bosses with companion support. Experimenting with different weapons and skills, including a perfect dodge mechanic that slows down time for increased damage opportunities, made the combat feel engaging.
Overall, Rune Factory Guardians of Azuma appears to be a promising title and a fitting launch game for Switch 2, offering an enjoyable experience for players.
