Ravenswatch is a game that is now available to play via Steam Early Access. This game is a top-down roguelike action game developed by Passtech Games and published by Nacon that combines real time combat that will help players defeat their enemies and upgrade their chosen characters, all in order to defeat the nightmare invading and corrupting their world. I enjoy roguelike games, as well as action games. From what I have played, I would say that Ravenswatch is headed toward the right direction for development, leaving with a very good first impression.
Gameplay
The gameplay for Ravenswatch can be figured out by players very quickly. The main goal for the player to achieve in this game is to defeat the nightmare of the world they are in. Before they can do this, however, it is recommended that they level up and upgrade their character. Players can do this by defeating the many enemies and finding stat upgrades scattered in the world they are in. However, there is a time limit. If players wish to level up and upgrade their character, they must defeat as many enemies as they can and find as many upgrades as possible before the time limit runs out. There are a few different characters to choose from as of right now. For me, I chose to play as Scarlet and Aladdin. For the sake of explaining the game, I will use Scarlet. Each character has 4 main types of attacks. For Scarlet, she has a main slash attack, which is her basic attack. Her second attack is a moving slash, slashing through enemies, which is great for movement and evasion. Her third attack is throwing a bomb, which can hit an area of enemies. Her final move is an ability that turns the player intangible for 2 seconds. Each character has different stats and special abilities that they will need to improve on before facing the nightmare of the world. Using Scarlet as an example again, she will turn into a savage wolf when it turns nighttime, which ends up changing her attacks and abilities. Each character has a special ability that is unique to them, so players can choose a character that best fits their type of playstyle. Once the player has gotten everything they feel they need (or the time limit runs out), they must fight against the nightmare of the world, or the boss. Once they defeat the boss, they would move on to the next level. Overall, this kind of gameplay was very enjoyable for someone like me who enjoys action and roguelike games.
Final thoughts
Overall, I believe the game Ravenswatch is headed toward the right direction in development. This game so far has been very fun with the different characters and action mechanics and I cannot wait to see the game to be completed. If you enjoy and wish to try a combination of roguelike and action in one game, then I would recommend playing this game. Ravenswatch is available for PC via Steam Early Access.
