Introduction/Information about Serum
Serum is a game that has recently been released in early access on Steam. This game is a first person survival game where players must battle infected creatures, solve various puzzles, and figure out everything that has happened to them, all while extracting various serum in order to stay alive. I would not say I play too many survival games, and was unsure what this game would have in store for me. When I was introduced to the main gimmick of the game, I was much more interested and intrigued. Not only was this a very good concept, it seemed to be executed pretty well so far. After playing Serum, I would say that this game is on a good track for development.
Gameplay
The gameplay for Serum has plenty of mechanics that players must grow accustomed to. When starting the game, the player will wake up in the sewers, unsure of what has happened to them. However the player will quickly learn that they are on borrowed time. This is where players will learn the main mechanic of the game. Although players are on borrowed time, that time is not set in stone. There are ways to increase the borrowed time players have. In order to do this, they need to gain or craft serum. Doing this will give players more time to live, and depending on which serum players use, they will learn they can gain different abilities as well. In the beginning, however, players will only be able to make and find serum that can increase their borrowed time. They will need to progress through the map in order to find the other kinds of serum. Once the game instills the importance of serum into the players head, they will continue out of the sewers and reach an abandoned building with various different stations, such as crafting benches and a station for growing plants, that will help the player survive. This is where players will establish their base of operations. Here, their borrowed time will not go down, and they can craft different tools and weapons to help them survive. They will also be able to craft different serums here, given that they have the recipe for the serum they want to make. Of course, players can’t just stay in their base forever. There are plenty of questions that need answers, and they can only be found by searching the different areas, solving different puzzles, and defeating plenty of monstrous enemies. Players will need to use every tool and serum they can craft/create in order to survive and figure out what has happened to them.
Final thoughts
Overall, I believe the game Serum has a very cool and strongly executed concept, and I believe they are on the right track for development. As I have said before, I am not someone who has not played many survival games. However, this game was the first survival game I have played in a while that has had me very interested and focused when playing. I greatly enjoy the concept of trying to survive on borrowed time, as well as having to survive other dangers as well. If you are the kind of player that enjoys survival games and wants added difficulty, then I would recommend this game.

I love analyzing the games I play, as well as state my opinions about the game. I wish to provide authentic, fair, and detailed reviews on my opinions on the games I play, as well as try to provide little bias toward the games I review.
