Summoners War World Arena Championship 2018 Americas Cup Impressions

On Saturday, September 8th, I attended the Summoners War World Arena Championship at the LA Waterfront on behalf of Gaming Cypher.  Com2us, the creator of Summoners War, held the Summoners War World Arena Championship.  The event was open to the public, free of charge to those who went online to sign up for the event.  Unlike last year, the event was smaller and felt somewhat underwhelming by comparison.

As opposed to last year where there was a theatre with 4 floors of activities, this year the event consisted of a shop, 3 food trucks, an obstacle course, an area where people were playing with Nerf dart guns—which was very small—and the viewing area for the matches between players—which was also a great deal smaller than before. This felt somewhat disappointing as last year there had been events that allowed people who brought a device with the game installed to fight raid bosses in the game while in a designated area of the building.

On the positive side, there were more matches at this event than there were at the event last year. While last year the event consisted of matches between the top players for the game, this year the top guilds in the game also competed against one another. These matches were held in a tent with about enough seating for 100 people as opposed to last year where there were easily at least 1,000 seats.

Overall, I must say that I enjoyed last year’s event much more because of the venue and the variety of events for everyone to enjoy.  However, if I were in one of the participating guilds, I may have enjoyed this year more.
