BOSTON, MA: Independent game studio Little Worlds Interactive has launched its award-winning math strategy game on Steam, Valve Corporation’s digital distribution, social network, and multiplayer gaming platform. Combining challenging numeric puzzles with tower-defense gameplay, “The Counting Kingdom” is a family-friendly game with plans to release a mobile/tablet version this fall.
When asked about her choice of platform, Little Worlds Interactive founder Jenna Hoffstein said,
“Steam has become so popular in communities of both game customers and game developers that it makes perfect sense as the first destination for ‘The Counting Kingdom’. Being able to generate interest as well as collect design feedback from participating in Steam’s Early Access program was a huge benefit of the platform as well!”
Hoffstein’s efforts to share “The Counting Kingdom” have resulted in generating industry praise since the game’s early alpha stages, when she won the Grand Prize at MassDiGi’s Game Challenge in March as well as Pocket Gamer’s “Big Indie Pitch, Junior” competition at GDC later that month. In July, “The Counting Kingdom” was featured in the Indie Prize Showcase at Casual Connect San Francisco, where Hoffstein also delivered industry talks related to independent game development.
Most recently, “The Counting Kingdom” was selected for inclusion in the PAX 10 Indie Showcase at PAX Prime in Seattle later this month by a group of industry experts choosing “the ten best indie games in regard to gameplay and overall fun-factor”.

Here are the game’s Key Features:
- Intuitive but deep gameplay
- Repel monsters with magic by using addition and subtraction skills
- Generative level design means there are multiple ways to solve the problem; kids are encouraged to engage with the math instead of simply looking a single solution
