The first gameplay footage of Channel37’s next maritime first-person survival action-adventure game, The Last Caretaker, has been revealed by the industry veteran-led gaming studio at IGN Fan Fest.
The Last Caretaker’s opening scene, a deserted docking station where the game’s titular robotic protagonist abruptly awakens from hibernation, is seen in the first gameplay video. The game is set in a world of infinite waters where only traces of humanity survive. The video’s commentary is provided by Channel37 Community Manager Jack Pattillo, who was formerly of Rooster Teeth. He discusses the narrative themes that players may encounter and introduces some of the game’s gameplay elements.

In order to give fans access to behind-the-scenes commentary, new footage, and gameplay details of The Last Caretaker prior to its PC release later this summer, Channel37 Community Manager Jack Pattillo will begin hosting weekly livestreams on the Channel37 Twitch account on March 12 at 10 AM PT / 1 PM ET / 5 PM GMT.
Channel37 community manager Jack Pattillo stated, “This is my kind of game through and through. A deep mystery, survival mechanics that make you think, and real choices that shape how you play. Deciding whether to burn fuel for survival or use it as a weapon for example — these are the moments that make gameplay exciting. It’s the kind of game that keeps you on your toes, and I can’t wait to show more.”
Antti Ilvessuo, co-founder of Channel37 stated, “What Jack described is just a fraction of a fraction of what players can expect in The Last Caretaker. More systems, more resources, more fabrication, more weapons, more enemies — exploration above and below the sea. Human seeds, the Hall of Humanity, rockets, and the desperate fight to keep the mission alive. The list goes on … and there’s more to come! Wishlist now!“
The Last Caretaker Key Features:
- Create: Utilize precious resources to update your robotic capabilities, fix important systems, and make tools that are necessary to keep your operating capabilities. Your purpose is defined by each system you repair and each choice you make.
- Explore: A location appears explorable whether it is above or below the water. Disused stations, deteriorated platforms, and weathered megastructures continue to serve a purpose. These are actual places with a history, not merely set pieces.
- Discover: Every structure has pieces of human history and a narrative tie to the past. If a location seems to be concealing something, it most often is.
- Nurture: There is more to survival than food. Memories shape human existence. Rebuilding them is rebuilding mankind as a whole.
- Survive: Despite its beauty, the water is dangerous. Unknown entities, biological dangers, and rogue machines try to thwart your quest. Because something as basic as light may be your weapon and fear a guide to live another day, you can move through this world at your own speed.
In the summer of 2025, The Last Caretaker will be available for Windows PC on Steam and the Epic Games Store in Early Access. There will be a console release later. In addition to subscribing to Channel37’s Twitch channel to watch its weekly developer livestream series presented by Community Manager Jack Pattillo, future caregivers can wishlist the game right now.
