Disco Elysium's Creators Praise RUE VALLEY, a Narrative RPG, in Podcast; Demo Now Available

Emotion Spark Studio, the independent creator of the narrative role-playing game Rue Valley, and publisher Owlcat Games discussed the game’s creation on the Human Can Opener Podcast. Rue Valley, praised by Robert Kurvitz and Aleksander Rostov, the developers of Disco Elysium, will arrive later this year; a demo is now available for PC via Steam.

Check out the Rue Valley Announce Trailer:

With a crew of four, Rue Valley began development in 2020 and is influenced by games such as Disco Elysium and Outer Wilds. The time-loop mechanics of the game allow time to advance solely through player interaction, while the NPCs’ distinct worldviews give the game life. Players can customize their character’s features through the personality system, making every playing distinct.

Inspired by stop-motion and the “Spider-Verse” movies, the game’s hand-drawn imagery blends comic-book aesthetics with semi-3D images. The lighting, textures, and movements were refined over many years of testing.

When Robert Kurvitz, Aleksander Rostov, and Helen Hindpere, the creators of Disco Elysium, traveled to Belgrade and played the Rue Valley demo, it was a turning point in the game’s development. Their observations not only supported the team’s imaginative concept but also offered insightful feedback that improved its core elements.

Rue Valley Key Features:

  • Personality system: Create your own unique character in Rue Valley. You might be a theatrical loudmouth who always follows their instincts, or you can be a heartless recluse who overthinks everything.
  • Store Your Memories: In order to develop the main character, significant memories are kept in a graph that opens up fresh perspectives and special interactions surrounding the Rue Valley Motel.
  • Uncover the Secrets of Rue Valley: The vicinity of the Rue Valley Motel is stuck in a temporal loop due to an abnormality. Try changing the main character’s behavior every day until you have enough proof to crack the case.
  • 2D Parallax Art Style: Inspired by Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse, Rue Valley boasts an instantly identifiable, eye-catching comic book look.

A free demo edition of Rue Valley is now available for PC via Steam for gamers that are itching to play. Players can explore the environment and systems that have already enthralled industry veterans thanks to the demo, which provides an insight into the game’s distinctive gameplay, artistic style, and narrative depth.
