“As a celebration of 20 years since AVALANCHE saved the planet, we wanted to contribute our own personal Time King rendition of the Final Fantasy VII Victory Fanfare – the hippest battle victory music to date.” While the band has mastered their unique brand of prog rock, they site Final Fantasy VII as an influence to their eclectic sound. “Not only does the game and Nobuo Uematsu’s soundtrack bring us back to wonderful memories, both continue to have an active influence (particularly musically) on what we do today.” With the date of the Final Fantasy VII re-release still unknown, Time King “eagerly await [the re-release] like a bunch of antsy elementary school kids.” In the meantime, they offer this signature Time King tribute adding, “Cheers to Square, Uematsu, and the entire Final Fantasy community!”
The five-piece, self-described as “modern rock-jazz; music for your inner nerd and your inner party girl,” is preparing to release the FrontierlandEP, the first installment of their forthcoming album The 1955 Collection. The band’s latest single “Main Street” offered fans a look into what’s to come. “‘Main Street’ is the literal and figurative opening or overture to the entire collection,” the band explained, “[‘Main Street’] depicts standing at the ‘gates,’ glancing at what’s inside and making the conscious decision to step in and go along for the ride.” Frontierland, slated for release in May, is the first piece of The 1955 Collection. The full album will include 4 complete EPs as well as chosen singles released in the interim. The band remarked that, “The EPs are related to each other, but each explores an independent musical, visual and lyrical aesthetic.”
Founded by members Brandon Dove (guitar) and Shayne Plunkett (vocals/guitar), after meeting at a Berklee College of Music summer program, Time King has been actively carving a place for themselves in the prog rock scene. After months of virtual collaboration between Dove and Plunkett, through Skype, iMessage and any other means, in 2012 the band added vocalist Kalvin Rodriguez, bassist/producer James “Jimmy T” Meslin and drummer Matthew “Goose” Nazario to complete the Time King sound. While their initial releases landed them deals with NBC Universal and The USA Network, the band’s first official full-length release, 2015’s Suproe garnered praise from Huffington Post, Nerdist, Kill The Music and more.
