Transport Fever 2 Review for Steam

Good Shepherd Entertainment and Urban Games officially released Transport Fever 2, the second edition of the classic transportation based game, Transport Fever. Not only allowing players to further explore transport routes via land, water, and air, players are able to build/manage their own transportation empire entirely to the player’s likeness. Take a brief tour through transportation history and intimately understand how the world of transportation was developed through the organic urge to evolve the world of mobility and share it with others.

Sound

            Pros:

  • Quite jazzy, upbeat, and original. Very clear and not overbearing for the player.
  • The upbeat tone of the background music nicely contrasts the meditative process of the game.
  • The beats-per-minute of each song will vary after a certain amount of time, which is good for those who prefer some variation while transporting.

            Cons:

  • The music is upbeat and refreshing to a degree, but after a while of playing it, it may become monotonous and not of preference for someone who isn’t crazy about that genre of music.

Graphics

            Pros:

  • Graphics are what I’d expect from a modern transportation in today’s day and age. I had a hunch that the game’s predecessor would have rougher graphics, so upon research, I was correct that Transport Fever 2 exceeds its predecessor in terms of graphical flow.
  • I haven’t played many transportation games, but the amount of detail that the game goes into in terms of transportation vehicles and environments is exceptional. It’s evident that they are made by someone who did not half-ass their part in animating the graphics of the game.

            Cons:

  • Graphics may be too much for the average PC computer. The graphics are even just a tad harsh on my PC, which is a gaming laptop. But perhaps this cannot be avoided with the amount of detail that is put in the game.

Plot

            Pros:

  • No plot — just a laid-back game for those who needn’t the drama of a plot-based game that requires the player to focus on a certain type of goal, which may be particularly stressful for some players.
  • Very interesting for players who do not know much of transportation processes, and those who may not know much about land, sea, or/and water vehicles.

            Cons:

  • After a while, the process of building and managing ones’ own transportation system can become tiresome and monotonous (at least for me). Though, this may not be a problem for others who prefer this kind of process.

Gameplay

            Pros:

  • Fairly easy to figure out how to navigate — instructions are readily splayed out to the player. Paving roads for one’s choice in mobility is not difficult — in fact, the options are greater than one would think (from the perspective of one who has not played many games such as this).

            Cons:

  • There aren’t many cons to a game that helps you walk through its gameplay, but as I aforementioned, it’s easy to turn monotonous for players who are more swayed by action filled, goal-oriented games.

Reviewer’s Opinion

Given, I have never played the first edition of Transport Fever, nor am I one to adequately measure the sophisticated parts of transportation games. However, even as a gamer who personally does not prefer that sort of genre of game, I admit that the overall presentation of Transport Fever 2 is most impressive and kept me interested. It is noticeably made for a specific demographic of transportation-enthusiasts, by transportation-enthusiasts.
