Trine 4: The Nightmare Prince, developed by Frozenbyte and published by Modus Games, is a series of 2.5D puzzle platformer games that is going to be released for PC via Steam on October 8, 2019. Trine has been a really popular series that lets you use three different heroes who solve a lot of puzzles by using each one’s different skills. We did give our impressions on Trine 4 at E3 2019 as we found out about the world. But when I played the game, it was a whole different experience.
This time, Trine 4: The Nightmare Prince seems to be back with a bang as we played through six levels of the game. First three levels are pretty simple – you go through and experience unique skills of each hero. The wizard, Amadeus helps levitating the items; the knight, Pontius can fight, shield, and slam the ground; and the final one is The thief, Zoya, who has archery skills and can use ropes to make ways and move out throughout the world.
Graphically, Trine 4: The Nightmare Prince looks extremely polished and realistic with stunning artwork and graphics. The biggest change I felt this time around is the story, which is really captivating. In addition, the puzzles and new skills improvements each gives you a great amount of satisfaction in playing and solving the puzzles. Also this time around, Trine 4 is has some great boss fights and mini boss fights that let you collect stars that unlock additional skills for each player. The story this time around is about Prince Selius who has issues with nightmares that are actually entering the real world.
Zoya can change through different arrows that are normal, fire, and ice. Each arrow allows you to achieve certain tasks in the game with freezing something with an ice arrow or unfreezing something with the fire arrow.
Trine 4: The Nightmare Prince is a mixture of captivating story, dynamic puzzles, a great size of the skill tree, combat, and some great sound tracks. After I finished the 6th level, I still wanted to continue playing the game. That is how much I was involved in the game by just playing thru a few levels.
It is going to be almost month’s wait to see the story unfold with great amount of curiosity that keeps on increasing.
