Unusual Findings is a very nostalgic point-and-click adventure game, by developer Epic Llama Games. It is set with a theme similar to Netflix’s show, Stranger Things. I have played a lot of graphically similar-looking games, with amazing background music and point-and-click style navigation in the open world.
Indie games are great, as you well know, and in recent years, point & click games have made a comeback, reuniting with old fans and at least making an effort to attract new ones.
Unusual Findings is a game with recognizable point-and-click action that tries to capitalize on our memories. Unusual Findings tells the story of three adolescents who find an alien ship that has crashed nearby but can’t quite persuade anybody to believe them, even though it is an extraterrestrial.
While I first swooned over numerous allusions, the enchantment starts to wear off when you see 6 or 7 of them in the course of a scene or two. The writing, overall, is a little shaky; it could need a second view or a general pass via an editor. The writing is littered with grammatical flaws, which are accentuated by the poor voice acting.
The gameplay is roughly what you would anticipate. The overworld maps that are present throughout the quest make it quite simple to click between various destinations.
The major focus is on gathering goods for your inventory and utilizing your big-brain energy to combine them or figure out how to use them. As you might anticipate, dialogue between various individuals provides hints as to what you should do next. Since you already know how it works, I won’t bore you with the specifics. This is typical point-and-click material. Sometimes, illogical puzzles and a lot of talking.
Unusual Findings won’t persuade you to like the genre if you don’t already, despite the nostalgia present.
The game’s stunning pixel visuals made for a lovely visual experience, in my opinion. Even though there are only a few preset locations to visit over straightforward maps, the village where these individuals were raised seems realistic. The gritty background elements are charming. It’s unfortunate that as you move on, boring laboratories and facilities that aren’t as interesting to explore become the norm. Retro movie posters illuminate buildings, while flies swarm leftover food. Nevertheless, I think the creative approach of this point-and-click game was chosen with tremendous affection and attention.
The soundtrack, which exudes vintage synth and varies depending on the setting, may be compared to that. It’s wonderfully done and will immerse you in the time that this game is so desperately trying to recreate. What a shame the voice acting is so terrible.
Unusual Findings is a respectable but unremarkable point-and-click adventure. There are many appealing aspects in the graphics and audio, but not every puzzle is a hit. A second read-through of the screenplay might have easily corrected some glaring literary faults and the forced nostalgia. Unusual Findings is still worth a watch if you enjoy the genre, are of this generation or were intrigued by Stranger Things.

I love single player story mode games with beautiful open worlds. Games like Red Dead Redemption, GTA series, Uncharted series, Far Cry series, Assassin's Creed series, etc., are some of the best games I have ever played. I love to play a game that has immersive worlds to explore and interesting story line.
