Warhammer Chaosbane is a hack-and-slash game by BigBen and EKO Software wherein you fight the forces of chaos to save a human empire.
As it is a hack-and-slash game, the main attraction is slaying waves of enemies and gathering better gear from fallen enemies. The game isn’t very inventive with this. For the most part, it’s the standard waves upon waves of weak enemies interspersed with the occasional strong enemy that can’t be effortlessly killed.
When starting a new game, you can pick one of 4 characters to play. Three of the 4 of these characters fill gaming archetypes. There’s a tank character that can absorb more hits than the other characters; a berserker character that generates energy for attacks by fighting; and a mage character that deals high damage but is very fragile. The 4th character is a ranger, although she plays a little differently than I expected the class to play (although this might just be because I rarely play that class type). The ranger character’s play style centers around summoning pets to distract the enemies and taking them down while they’re busy fighting the pets.
Warhammer Chaosbane supports both local and online multiplayer and, while it is possible to play the game alone, it is clearly meant to be played on multiplayer. All 4 characters are designed to be played alongside at least one of the other 3.
Overall, I thought this game was okay. While it was a somewhat entertaining hack-and-slash, I didn’t see anything in it that really set it apart from other hack-and-slash games out there. As such, I think a fair rating for it is 7/10.
