Wizard of Legend Review for Nintendo Switch

Wizard of Legend by two-person indie dev team, Contingent99, is fast paced, action packed magical wonder. If you have ever wondered what Gandalf would have been like when he was young, I’ll describe it in one word: BADASS! What can I say, this game is spellbinding.

Gameplay:

The game starts in modern times where you are visiting a museum with an exhibit on wizards and magic.

While you are at one of the exhibits which lets you pretend to be a wizard,  you get thrown back into ancient times and find yourself amongst real magic and wizards.

You find out  quickly that in order to make it in this world you have to become a student of magic.

You start off with the four arcanas, these are your attack skills. You can also enable relics that can be used to enhance your attacks or defenses. There are multiple arcanas to choose  from, over 100 different spells to find and unlock. Arcanas types are fire, water, earth, wind and electricity. The arena in which you use these powers is in the chaos trials.

These trails consist of nine stages, three for each mini boss and then the final boss battle. The mini bosses, as I like to call them, each have their own element that they specialize in, which are Earth, Fire, and Water. Before you face each boss you must go through two stages of their minions.

And at first it it might seem  hopeless, you face tons of minions with different skill sets such as archers, wizards, rock monsters, swordsmen and just random blobs that try to bounce on you. But each time you fail, it is not in vain because you walk away with gems that can be used to buy more arcanas.

As you power up you will be able to handle each foe more easily  than before. The further you get into a stage, the more gold you collect, which can be used to buy temporary arcanas and relics. The better you match your relics with your spells, the better you will be at combating your opponents and and even  turning them against themselves.

There are two things I love about this game.  One, as you progress throughout the game, your enemies will evolve with your skill set, minions that were easy before are now supercharged. The layout and placement of foes on the map gets generated at random so trying to speedrun will not work. The second thing I love about this game is co-op.

Being able to play with a friend is amazing.  When the battle intensifies, having a fellow wizard in the room makes all the difference.

Conclusion:

This game is a fantastic, magical, action packed game with hours and hours of endless fun. So grab a friend, some snacks, and have some extra controllers charged and ready to go because you will be binge playing this game.
