Just as the intro to Megas XLR once said, “We did giant robots!” developer OTA IMON Studios and publisher Raw Fury bring us Wolfstride, a gorgeously animated black and white anime styled-giant robot turn based strategy fighting game (say that three times fast).
As mentioned, Wolfstride is a turn-based strategy game involving giant fighting robots. In battle, you will select from a number of attacks, defend, or movement abilities in order to gain the upper hand. In between fights in the oversized headquarters/garage, there is an assortment of different modifications available for your robot that change up the move set, improve the armor or health, or otherwise just make it look even more awesome than it already does. The game explains that in order to win, your best bet is to focus on the head and torso chassis in order to disable and defeat the opposing fighter. This is not expressly the only way to win however, as you may destroy their arms to prevent certain moves from being performed or cripple their defensive abilities.
Abilities are present in order to boost your armor and heal yourself. This will help in prolonged fights as you duke it out and gain the ever-so-important edge in the fight that will allow you to reach a victory. These abilities are presented in-universe as the pilot’s special skillsets, such as being ace repair specialists or hot-blooded fighters who are eager to scrap. On that notion, the characters are all well-animated and written, with plenty of humor and character to keep you entertained in between fights. If I had to weigh an opinion on influence, I would definitely say it’s as if the developer merged the best parts of Megas XLR and Cowboy Bebop together to create this Frankenstein of a robot fighting game, and I absolutely love it!
Wolfstride is not only an aesthetically pleasing game to look at, it is an addictive and well-built game to play as well. If you are in the mood for some over the top action mixed with fun strategy that will make you think about every move and every ability at your disposal, Wolfstride should be on your radar is it continues through beta and robot punches its way out to a full release.
You can add Wolfstride to your PC wishlist right now via Steam.

Your local neighborhood nutjob, gamer, and teacher! I'm an avid fan of many genres such as platformers, shooters, horror, etc. I am also an avid tabletop gamer - hugely into the worlds of Warhammer and all of their spinoffs. I'm a big believer in being objective - even if something is not my cup of tea, I want to talk about it on the objective level - is it well made, crafted with love, and with care for the fans? If so, that's a good game in my book for someone and well worth their hard earned dollarydoos!
