One of the most recognizable consumer brands and interactive entertainment producers in the world, Atari, is happy to announce today that it will be working with renowned development studio WayForward Technologies (Shantae, River City Girls) to bring Yars’ Revenge, the 2600 version of Atari’s best-selling game, into a decidedly modernized storyline. Yars Rising, the next game, will launch on PC and gaming consoles in late 2024.

Wade Rosen, Chairman and CEO of Atari stated, “WayForward’s proven storytelling and worldbuilding powers made them a perfect choice for reimagining one of Atari’s most enduring game franchises. I am confident that fans are going to enjoy this new, dynamic chapter in the Yars storyline: Yars Rising.”
In Yars Rising, players assume control of Emi Kimura, a young hacker recruited to penetrate the secretive Qotech firm by an unidentified sponsor. In this vast sci-fi thriller, you must run, jump, sneak, and hack your way through obstacles to reveal layers of mystery. Set off on Emi’s quest to solve the riddle of the company’s closely-kept secret and discover her strange connection to a distant extraterrestrial species.
WayForward is known for creating franchises with compelling narratives and well-developed characters. Yars Rising is a side-scrolling Metroidvania adventure game by the studio that features platforming action, a stealth and combat gameplay balance, and minigames with a throwback vibe.
Yars Rising is scheduled for release in late 2024 for consoles and PC. Wishlist the game right now for PC via Steam.
