Frightfully close to reality, sleep seems unsafe in the nightmarish Nintendo Switch game YumeNikki -Dream Diary- by Active Gaming Media and PLAYISM. As players fall deep into the depths of a waking dream, they drift between a bizarre trance and a haunting nightmare. But the terror, doom, and fear which players endure is nothing in comparison to the excitement and entertainment they will experience. This demented puzzle game will captivate players and leave even the bravest sleeping with their lights on. Using surreal fears, players will be convinced these are concepts unimaginable in waking life.
The fluid controls will make players feel as if YumeNikki -Dream Diary- was destined for the Nintendo Switch. This unique and horrifying adventure game will leave players satisfied by the simplistic controls. Even though Active Media Gaming uses an alternative approach by making select (B) and cancel (A), players will have no problem adjusting. Although I cannot dismiss their inevitable frustration after getting killed mauled by eyeballs, I can ensure the gameplay will leave the player satisfied.
Without a doubt one of my favorite things about YumeNikki -Dream Diary- is the dream diary the protagonist keeps. The items collected as she journeys through these unique worlds are both terrifying and enchanting, truly emphasizing the imaginative depths of this puzzling game. After unlocking new [concept art designs and returning to their room, I highly suggest visiting their diary and observing their new discoveries. Players will never seize to be amazed by Active Gaming Media’s creativity.
The abstract concepts are enough to leave the player speechless. Although Active Gaming conveniently allows players to quit and return, the illustrations and gameplay entice players to run through each world at full force. The complicated obstacles and difficult puzzles, however, might prevent that from successfully happening but do not let the discouragement take control. Collecting mesmerizing concept art along the way and seeing each cinematic ending is worth the effort and all the failed attempts.
There’s no doubt YumeNikki -Dream Diary- is tricky and may leave the player frustrated when they can’t figure out where to go next, however, they shouldn’t feel dismayed. Active Gaming Media have made it convenient enough so the player can quit and return later, although they will have to restart from the beginning of the dream, progress still intact. In other words, if they’ve conquered a terrifying monster or finding valuable collectibles and effects they will still be in their inventory. So, worry not, progress will not be lost if you need to take a break from this horrifying game! Sometimes, the sheer terror of YumeNikki -Dream Diary- can take a toll on the player and a fresh lens can be refreshing.
The illustrations and scenarios in YumeNikki -Dream Diary- surpass even the wildest imagination. Showing creatures players swear can only be conjured up in the minds of maniacs this reviewer has to argue, who hasn’t experienced a dream so outlandish they can’t help but wonder what the heck is going on? No matter the player, they’re bound to have experienced some sort of dream too bizarre to put into words and Active Gaming Media shows the perfect example of just that. By the end of each session, players will leave terrified, puzzled, and hungry for more.
Rating: 9.2

Nintendo Switch Review
My name is Haylee, but everyone calls me "Haylz". Gaming has been a passion of mine since my grandma bought me The Sims for PC and my love for gaming flourished from there. Currently, I'm a Senior studying English at Texas A&M University- Corpus Christi and spend most of my time gaming and leading my school through collegiate competitions as President of the eSports club! Despite being a dedicated vegetarian, my favorite games tend to be First Person Shooters and I'm naturally drawn to blood and gore! Chances are, if you can kill in it, I'll play it... I just won't eat it (unless it's a Fallout perk)!
