Actrio Studio and Signal Space Lab are pleased to present Human Within, an interactive virtual reality multimedia science fiction project. Coming on Meta Quest 2 and 3 on January 9th and shortly to SteamVR, Human Within is a unique virtual reality interactive experience that examines the significant impact of artificial intelligence and cutting-edge technology on society while emphasizing the risks if abused.
Human Within, which was directed by Avi Winkler and Anne Weigel, takes place in a contemporary universe where Nyla, a cyber engineer, works for Forward Industries with her sister Linh. Together, they harness the processing power of the human brain to create a revolutionary supercomputer. But when Nyla tries to leave the project, both sisters are arrested and forced to stay on the job despite concerns about their employer’s ulterior intentions. Nyla is compelled to attach the technology to Linh in a bold attempt to gain freedom, and she uses it just as she had feared.
Human Within blends video game playability with an exciting branching plot. Players may enjoy a unique interactive experience thanks to its unique tale and gameplay elements.
Human Within sets itself apart with a special combination of technical features, such as:
- User Involvement: A novel approach to watch the events unfold and participate in a way that is unlike anything else is to experience the story from Linh’s perspective in a virtual online environment.
- Point Cloud Interactivity: Investigate settings in virtual recreations. These scenes add a whole new level of involvement to the mix by acting as pace-breaking moments where users interact with the tale even more.
- Choice and Consequence: The user’s decisions determine the events that occur at pivotal points in the narrative. These instances establish the course of events in the past and decide how everything concludes in the present.
- Style Variety: The narrative is presented using a special fusion of three different visual styles: Point Cloud recreations with six-degree-of-freedom 3D environments, Flashback Scenes with interactive 360-degree stereo video, and The Internet Space, which combines 2D and 3D visuals.
Avi Winkler, Creative Director at Signal Space Lab stated, “We wanted to explore how advanced tech affects the human experience, and how we connect to one another. Launching at a time of rapid advancements, like ChatGPT 4.0 and Neuralink, Human Within no longer feels like science fiction, but rather a timely reflection on the shifting realities of modern life. We felt it was important to use VR to tell this story, as it immerses viewers in the reality of now – and where we’re headed – in a more immersive, nuanced way than through a traditional film or video game. Technology can be both terrifying or connecting. Ultimately, it’s what we do with these tools that matters.”
