Anime NYC Day 2:

Anime NYC Days 2 & 3

For the second day of Anime NYC that festive atmosphere was still as lively as ever and, in a sense, ever greater so as Friday’s crowd is sounding off the weekend.  Moreover, the gaming section of Anime NYC was revealed to congoers and this allowed for indie games to be showcased from the surrounding area with plenty of games. With plenty of these games raging from board games based upon punishment to video games with co-op rougelites.

With this being Friday various indie game developers showed up showcasing their hard work and passion for those in attendance.  One major game that has made itself known from the event is Starlight Re:Volver having a collaboration with famous internet celebrity CDawgVa and popular Vtuber Ironmouse.  The game has evolved over time and I can say that the game is something the team should be happy about as it’s something wholly unique.  Aside from that there are some new games being showcased and one in particular offered a great challenge and will catch some eyes for fans of difficult grueling games.  The name of the game is Perfect Liar, a game that truly fulfills its role as a juke-em up with a large emphasis on player positioning, and well time usage of the player’s skill.  Furthermore, there are not too many games within this new type of genre of games and Perfect Liar might be the first of its kind exploring this new territory.

Aside from a game exploring a mostly unknown genre, one game that has been lurking in the background has been a game called, Blue Protocol: Star Resonance a mmorpg based anime gacha games with plenty of user customization.  The overall impression of the game is that it is really fits the box standard anime action rpg game with a focus on the massive multiplayer as while playing various player-controlled characters can be seen moving and doing quests out and about in the world.  In addition to massive multiplayer, the game offers players quite the selection of customization as an important part in standout and making your character your own is through player agency.

And the player agency in Blue Protocol: Star Resonance is quite high by providing players a wardrobe to access and beauty cosmetics that will play a part in how players will customize their characters.

Aside from video games there was one board game making a return to the convention and that is Gem Blenders a card game that has gained a large crowd and gathering being put on display.  Moreover, they are providing special limited print promotional cards for congoers and are willing to teach players on how to play the game itself.  Of which is quite easy to pick up so the game is not too difficult for those who want to enjoy a new card game that is not going to cost them over 200 dollars to make a single deck.  This makes the game have a good means of entry for new players which is what other more popular games need to do especially with pricing.

There was also another returning game and that is Ghost Eater a hack and slash that has grown immensely from what it used to be last year.  The growth of this game can not be underestimated with its more graphic novel style with a focus on black and white making the game have this cyberpunk look to it.  Moreover, this game has truly evolved from its more wire frame aesthetic from last year, with the game being more polished in terms of art style and direction.

With the end of day 2 ending the most prevalent thing to make mention of is the Hololive concert taking place with plenty of fans in attendance cheering on for their favorite Holomember from the English branch.  Of which they cheered on and on that, they could be heard from certain parts of the convention center showcasing their love for their favorite Vtuber from the company.  This just sets a precedence as to how popular the company has become and the growth of the Vtubing industry itself as those dedicated fans are reciprocating their love for the hard work and dedication from Vtubers who spent time and effort into making themselves better for them.  This makes their relationship albeit one based on a parasocial relationships a positive one as the fans and Vtubers want to be better and grow.

Anime NYC Days 2 & 3

Anime NYC day 3 was packed and full of cosplayers and special events going on at the premises from various special panels, music, and so much more.  However, the stars for today were the cosplayers as they went out of their way to dress up as some of our favorite characters from Japanese media like anime, games, and tv shows.  They truly try to bring these characters to life as best as they can with what they can do in in their spare time.  Moreover, they put in the time and effort to either make themselves get their body shape through hard work and effort or by making the props and costume necessary to do so. While the range of cosplayers can range from being amateurs all the way to professionals, they still try their best.

One of the cosplay photoshoot meetings highlighted in this article is from the anime and manga named Frieren: Beyond Journey’s End.  As for some background on the anime it is focused around a long-lived elf named Frieren were the audience follows her on a journey after the death of Himmel The Hero due to old age.  That became the focus point the anime as she tries to reach the land where souls rest to talk to Himmel again as she realized her feelings for him.  And these feelings manifested in her going on a journey again as she goes to meet her old party members to see them before they eventually pass. Then as she continues her travels she picks up other prominent characters like Stark and Fern to accompany her as a party on a new adventure.

The other cosplay meeting was around Kamen Rider a Japanese televised show based commonly referred to as tokusatsu due to its use of practical effects, people in specific costumes, and a mixture of special effects when necessary.  As for Kamen Rider itself it has stayed on tv for over 50 years as of writing this and it has left a lasting impact on the anime community as a whole. Especially in regards to the anime based on Kamen Rider W series as it made the jump to anime during 2022.  This brought forth a whole new set of fans to the Kamen Rider franchise from the anime community.   As for some background history of the series, Kamen Rider as a franchise is separated into various series with each new series introducing a new Kamen Rider and story to keep it fresh.  So, no two Kamen rider series are their own stories unless they are certain movies or specialized series to celebrate the franchise’s anniversaries.  Furhemore, at the end of the Kamen Rider cosplay meet up they ended it over at the booth of Muteki Sales a booth that is specialized in Kamen Rider memorabilia as indicated by their icon.

I would describe myself when interacting with games as a strategist with a pension for stealth and loud explosions.
