And the music is providing a great sense of depth fitting each environment and special event. Overall, Apopia: Sugar Coated Tale is pretty good for players who are new to video games as a hobby and for those who want a narratively driven game.

The narrative is put forth and forefront in this game through the extensive amount of dialogue in Apopia: Sugar Coated Tale. Players who are familiar with the more upbeat character dialogue might draw some connections to Undertale and SpongeBob Employee of the Month due to the dialogue in the game. And for those newer to gaming, this might catch their attention due to how the dialogue is written. Moreover, this allows for characters in the game to be their own characters, so to say, which is a good thing. In doing so, it allows for these characters to grow, and the more the player learns about them, the more they can empathize with them and try to understand them. Furthermore, certain minigames are tied into the narrative well; for one prominent example, testing the player’s ability to decide the best route, so for keen players, this special minigame will be quite easy. The game also adds a bunch of references from popular culture so players who are in different communities might be able to point them out and be like, “I was not expecting the game to reference that.”

Apopia: Sugar Coated Tale by Quillo Entertainment Limited has provided a great game that is driven by its narrative with a mystery tying it all together. The gameplay is quite varied, and while yes, the player can navigate the world, it is how they interact with it in the confines of the narrative that helps define it. By making the game this way, it might feel like it’s on the rails, so to say; it doesn’t feel all too restrictive to the player in regard to the overall playthrough. The game itself is pretty fun, and the narrative for the game has been crafted quite well, making the game a solid 9/10 just due to how well crafted the narrative is with the mystery behind it all.
