Casinos are depicted in all film genres from comedies like The Hangover or classics like Ocean’s Eleven, and then there’s the more obscure “cult classics” like Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas. If you’re a millennial, the film industry may be the closest you’ve come to seeing what the inside of a brick-and-mortar casino looks like.
Today, millions of tourists continue to visit iconic Vegas but often for other reasons besides spending the weekend hitting the blackjack tables and slot machines. In efforts to keep the casino industry thriving, particularly in the brick-and-mortar casinos, casinos are revamping their offerings to attract the millennial demographic.
The Everchanging Casino Demographic
The popularity of casinos has ebbed and flowed for decades. As a millennial, you may think that casinos are an “older” person’s game and you’re not completely wrong. According to a study from 2014, 78 percent of baby boomers and 68 percent of Gen Xers gambled when they visited Vegas, while 63 percent of millennials spent money gambling at a casino.
In the last decade, the casino business overall has experienced a decline. While there are many factors to consider, part of the decrease is due to millennial visitors wanting more or a different experience when visiting the Vegas strip.
Giving Millennials What They Want
Millennials often have a bad reputation for being too picky and vocal about what they don’t like but that’s not always a bad thing. Many casino games have been the same for decades and sometimes tradition is boring and simply outdated.
While many casino goers love the nostalgia of the “hands-on” experience of a slot machine or blackjack table, it doesn’t spark the same feelings in younger demographics. No one is necessarily asking brick and mortar casinos to ditch the traditional games, but it’s an excellent idea to incorporate new styles of classic games by using technology.

The over 50 crowd can appreciate the thrill of pulling the lever of a slot machine, watch the numbers and fruit spin, and hope for a win.
