A major preview of SHADOW LABYRINTH, an upcoming 2D action exploration platformer set in a dark sci-fi environment influenced by PAC-MAN and other classic arcade games, was released today by Bandai Namco Entertainment America Inc. This brand-new trailer, which was released appropriately on “PAC MAN Day” to commemorate the video game icon’s 45th anniversary (PAC-MAN was first released in Japanese arcades on May 22, 1980), shows off how the game’s gameplay cleverly incorporates elements from the original game and the many iconic titles that followed in the franchise. Players must navigate this maze-filled world and eat everything in order to become the top predator in Shadow Labyrinth, an epic journey on a hostile planet where dangers abound and a mysterious but familiar companion named PUCK imparts familiar wisdom. The game is currently available for pre-order for the PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch, and PC via Steam in both Digital Standard and Digital Deluxe Editions. It is scheduled for release on July 18, 2025. Digital pre-orders for the Nintendo Switch 2 version will shortly open as well.

SHADOW LABYRINTH, created by Bandai Namco Studios, combines a contemporary fast-paced platformer style with references to Bandai Namco’s arcade history in both the game’s plot and gameplay. A dark view of the PAC-MAN universe plays a significant role in the game, as demonstrated by the most recent reveal, and PUCK serves as both a source of strong—and frequently recognizable—skills and powers as well as a guide. Assuming the role of Swordsman No. 8, a warrior who is always followed by PUCK, players traverse this expansive universe in search of strong weapons and defeating strong opponents while learning horrifying facts about the planet and its people. With its meandering hallways, pursuit-style mechanics, vintage sights and sounds, and one enormous, unforgettable, and recognizable boss known as the G-HOST Bug, SHADOW LABYRINTH seamlessly incorporates classic PAC-MAN game play throughout the game. Players will be kept alive by surviving the horrors of this maze-like world by devouring everything that gets in their path, just like in the original PAC-MAN.
Drawing inspiration from Bandai Namco’s extensive catalog of cherished arcade games, SHADOW LABYRINTH boasts a deep universe and story that goes beyond PAC-MAN. Bandai Namco is preparing surprise announcements of the game’s numerous influences in the lead-up to launch, including hints that will undoubtedly bring back fond memories for seasoned players and introduce a new generation of players to the worlds and characters of iconic arcade IP.
Along with giving fans a unique experience with SHADOW LABYRINTH, Bandai Namco is commemorating the game icon’s 45th anniversary and PAC-MAN Day on May 22 with a number of interesting collaborations and activations. Fans can explore the recently published PAC-MAN Cookbook, which provides inventive culinary interpretations based on vintage game components like the Ghosts and Power Pellets. With limited-edition PAC-MAN-themed doughnuts and a special PAC-MAN Day deal that offers a dozen Original Glazed doughnuts for just 25 cents when you buy any dozen at regular price, Krispy Kreme is making today a delicious moment to be a PAC-MAN fan. By introducing PAC-MAN into stadiums and fan experiences through official collaborations with the Los Angeles Angels and Club América, the celebration expands throughout the sports world. Additionally, as part of PAC-MAN’s “Make imPACt” campaign, a national blood drive in collaboration with the American Red Cross will begin later this year.
