Big Farm Story is a farming simulation RPG game developed and published on Steam Early Access by Goodgame Studios on August 20th of this year. Although Steam users can access the game now, it is still unfinished, with the developers clarifying that there may still be some bugs in the version released so far. Players can expect to have those bugs fixed and can also expect to be able to play with and develop friendships with other Steam users, a cooking feature, and more.
Big Farm Story is a combination of animal care, plant harvesting, building, and adventure game play (not to mention the upcoming cooking feature). So, while it is a game centered on running a farm, the game’s ability to include several game sub-genres and maintain a mysterious storyline may give players various opportunities to keep themselves entertained.
For the story, you are playing as a customizable main character whose grandfather recently disappeared after leaving a letter entrusting his farm to you fresh after a damaging storm that has left it in great need of your attentive care. As you try to dig for information on what happened to your grandfather, you are also readjusting to digging and plowing through your new farm. The mechanics for doing do are very simple. All of the gardening is based on clicking which actions you want to do and when. You simply wait for your crops to grow and click to pick them so that you can sell them.
Basically, the purpose of the game is to get your grandfather’s farm, or rather your farm, back up and running and then continue to care for the farm beyond that, all the while integrating into the surrounding community and figuring out where your grandfather has gone. How the game is played is up to the player: you can focus on your crops, your animals, your home, or adventures and story.
As stated above, your character is somewhat customizable, but more importantly, so is your farm and home. There are shops/markets where players can buy décor for their home or helpful tools and seeds for the farm, and there are also opportunities to find materials and resources during adventures or by simply looking around and exploring the scenery. One feature besides customization that allows players to build themselves a unique experience is the “sticker” feature. As you play, you will complete quests and do other tasks that will eventually level up the skills of your character. Each time you level up or complete a quest, you can choose your own reward, which could range from plant seeds to land.
The animation style makes the characters to be very cute, while the nature is very pretty, so it is completely understandable if some players spend most of their play time roaming around the forest or talking to the variety of characters in the village. Once the online multiplayer features are added, players will have even more incentive to socialize and will be able to collaborate in their exploration. According to developers, the smaller changes will be made on a biweekly schedule and the rest of the new features mentioned above will be added within the year.

I prefer games that aim to strike a balance between compelling stories with character development and fun and immersive gameplay. Some of my favorite games include Until Dawn, Detroit Become Human, and both the Call of Duty and Resident Evil game series.
